My provider is supposidly providing supper wide bandwidth and speeds but tests show different.
This post is not about what the provider is or isn’t giving me. Rather is it this. I run a speed test with my laptop (wireless connection) and get 274 down and 41 up. Then run a speed test from my Samsung TV (also wireless) and get 143 up and 86 down. How is this explained? Thanks to all our networking folks for helping to understand this better.
Most of the time the variation is simply due to the difference in the CPU, RAM and network adapters. Some are more powerful than others.
That is strange. I have a Samsung UHD TV as well. Every now and then I’ll run Speed Tests from my PC (using Ookla) and from my TV/ONN 4K Boxes (using Analiti) and I usually get the same results within 10-20 MB’s or so
It can also be due to location in your home (not just distance). Unless the laptop is right next to your TV’s wireless card, the speeds could be different. I take it you’re using the 5GHz (AC) WiFi network?
Laptop test was run 10 feet from the TV; within a minute of each other ….. AND … router is about 25ft away with no physical barriers in between … it is very, very close to exact same conditions.
Just for reference, I have a 1 gig fiber internet to the house. I have 3 boxes that sit side-by-side. An ONN Pro, Nvidia Shield Pro and an Ugoos AM9. They are about 18 feet from the router. The speeds per Analiti, typically run at best, ONN (55mbps), Nvidia (150mbps) and the AM9 screams at (200mbps). The speeds measured are with the SurfShark VPN on. So Miki’s explanation above would be correct.
How fast is your wifi on the laptop, or if youre using ethernet, is the port 100 or 1000mbps? Full duplex? Hardware Matters.
