Interesting link: 11apps to get rid of. #5 IPvanish see WHY!

info you may want to know! Just thought I would share as I’m using IPvanish and this surprised me!

5) IPVanish VPN

VPNs, or virtual private networks, rose in popularity over the last 10 years, but they’ve been around since 1996. Their purpose is to mask your internet activity and provide online privacy and anonymity by creating a private internet network from a public connection. VPNs [mask your internet protocol (IP) location], making it virtually impossible to trace you. You can even make it look like you’re browsing from Slovakia when you’re actually in the U.S.

Ironically, a majority of VPN apps aren’t safe, including one of the most popular providers, IPVanish VPN. YouTubers and other influencers heavily push the paid service because it has a lucrative affiliate program. However, in 2018, IPVanish was found to be logging customers’ data and providing it to U.S. authorities, according to a YouTube review by Lee TV, a tech review vlog.

Weird, right? Since it was caught, IPVanish quit that practice, but it caused a myriad of trust issues for users, leading many to cancel their subscription and delete the app.

That relationship with the government, while kaput, begs the question: Who else could IPVanish be sharing data with, while not adequately notifying customers?

I left IP Vanish when I had an issue installing it after I bought the 2017 Nvidia Shield. I tried Norton for a year and then they got hacked. I’ve been using and paying for " Express Vpn ", which costs a little more, but once set up I have way faster speeds and have never had a breach or been " hacked " on any of my devices. I better keep my fingers crossed now that I’ve mentioned that. Lol. Needless to say, I think all of the top 10 in paid VPN’s are mostly user preference.

I meant to have “Nord” Vpn not Norton. Doggone spellchecker. LOL

Nords Finland server was breached. Not their main servers, and it wasent just nord.

Vpns protect your online data… just because you use a vpn doesn’t mean you can’t be hacked. It’s not setup to prevent someone breaching your data. But it helps protect it. Common sense plays a huge roll in that. However vpns do have website blockers and malaware detection.

Express was leaked and got “hacked” as well. You want to be really protected I suggest a high end firewall + proxy + vpn + malware and adware protection.

As for ipvanish, yes they got caught, but to be fair it’s cicrumstancle. The same could be said for other vpns, who knows what they do with their logs or data.

Also keep in mind people can code apps and steal a whole whack of data from you. All kinds of scams out there.

Yes, I agree and that’s why I also stated that all in the top 10 paid for are mainly user-specific and by getting the speeds I like through express I’ve developed a trust in their product and I do agree with your comment. I also am a firm believer in Paypal when buying online ys using your own actual account. I think goggle pay or apple pay is probably just as good as they are all 256-bit encryptions with the HTTPS security as that’s the same as banks are using. I’m not saying anything is bulletproof
, just stating my own comfort zone, as someone would have to be very desperate to go after a minnow-like me in the Ocean of finance. LOL

I’m aware.

I was referring to a stand alone vs built into the vpn.

Amen bro. I also quit IPVanish for the same reasons in 2018 for Express VPN. Even with 5 vs. 10 connection for IP Vanish, Express VPN is far superior in terms of performance and keeping your data private.

That’s debatable.

They all do the same thing. They encrypt your web traffic and mask your ip, that’s the standard of all vpns. What you need to look at is price for what you are getting and features offered.

Ipvanish has unlimited connections which is impressive others have a cap. Everyone is welcome to use which ever vpn they want, I’m just merely making a point.

Unless you are some hacker or running scripts or debugging source code or hacking online networks anyone of these vpns is more than enough for streaming, it’s so your isp can’t see your network data and appears normal to them.

We’ll agree to disagree. My big problems with IP Vanish involved involuntary disconnections and chronic buffering because of low download and upload speeds. I get none of that with Express VPN. Cheapest isn’t always better.

I wasent talking about performance issues, simply saying vpns do the same thing. Someone will say the same thing about ipvanish as you about express.

Personal preference at this point.

Hi. I have been with IPvanish for about 6 years. I would trust that they would not sell data on but I would say that I have received excellent service including customer support on the 2 instances I have needed it.

Thanks for sharing always good to keep up on everything thanks

Hello everyone, if we thought IPVanish would do this type of thing, we wouldn’t be promoting them. It’s important to point out that this actual case happened around 2016 but was reported in 2018. Since that time, IPVanish has changed ownership multiple times. Highwinds originally owned IPVanish when this happened, then it went to StackPath, and now it is at J2 Global. Since the Highwinds debacle there hasn’t been another report of anything like this happening. StackPath was the owner at the time that this report came out and they made it clear that no such thing would happen under their ownership. Also, from what I remember reading about that case, the only data that Highwinds handed over was when this pedophile connected to their VPN service. They couldn’t give them any other information than that because the connection is encrypted. They used those timestamps of when he connected/disconnected to bust him on circumstantial evidence. I understand that they shouldn’t have even handed over that data but again, this was a different company that owned it at that time. I can promise you that I will remove any VPN promotion from our site if something like that happens. After the first of the year, you will see us diving into additional unbiased VPN reviews and we will be building out a “Best 10 VPN Services” list. Keep your eyes peeled for these new reviews starting on January 15th. Thanks guys.
