Previous firesticks used the Fire (Android) OS. The New “Select” stick uses the Vega OS. Android apps (eg downloader) won’t work on Vega devices.

the whole point of amazons new system is to stop downloading of unauthorised apps

The “Select” is the new VegaOS and is Linux based, not Android. So Android apps we won’t run on it.
