If a VPN Kill Switch is important to you

I think they listened and fixed my issue finally! Been using it steady for a week now and seems to be fine (knock on wood). I checked my account because yesterday was my 2 year expiration and I turned off auto renewal. Not sure if due to issues I’ve had, nothing was said but my sub now expires on Jul 10 2025. I thought expiration was coming so I downloaded PrivateVPN to try as it has a kill switch on Android TV OS and for the day I’ve had it, it’s running very well. When I leave for work, I put Express on due to reliability

Had the reoccurring problem again a few days ago, seems like if the box is running for more than a few days SS disconnects and the kill switch doesn’t shut down the internet. I have to reboot the box then things seem to work fine again for a while. Might have to contact CS or try a reinstall.

I’ve had that issue of it shutting down without kill switch activating when the dreaded different VPN detected pops up. That’s why I contacted support and moved away from it. But like most train wrecks you have to return and look. Lol I started using again and so far it’s been working. Not sure how long or if I’m just getting lucky at the moment

Unless I am completely missing something, CyberGhost has NO kill switch option in their Android TV app for Nvidia Shield Pro. Hopefully this will save someone else from having to go through requesting a refund.

UPDATE: Apparently I was missing something, as Miki pointed out to me, CyberGhost has a kill switch that is built-in to their Android TV app. I could not find it and thought it was not an option in their app. Thanks again Miki!

Pretty odd. Cyberghost says the the killswitch is automatically on for Android TV.

Thank you for finding that, it does seem odd, but I will keep an eye on it and see how good it works.

Yes they claim it’s automatically on. Not sure I’m hip on that

We also offer a kill switch at IPVanish for Android TV as well -

Thanks. Going to try it out now.

Edit: Easy install and tested right away. Working well.

Just curious if i missed a setting.

Can the KS be used only for the apps you are using the vpn on?

Meaning I use split tunneling and dont use ipv for amazon prime. But when the vpn is disconnected the KS will stop ALL internet access. Not just the apps i use it for.

It that just the way it is? Or can I adjust a setting?

I just tested it, and the IP Vanish KS blocks all apps regardless of split tunneling if the VPN is disconnected. I hope that helps.

Yeah i got the same result. I was hoping there was a way to only kill the internet for the vpn used apps.

Thanks.

I spoke to them as my SS renewal is coming up. Their Kill switch is limited and won’t work on any android streaming box like the Onn and such. After so many years, they still don’t have their bases covered. I don’t need a kill switch on my phone but thank you.

Are you referring that you spoke to SS or IPV?

IPV, The SS Kill switch works on everything. Sorry if that was not understood. The last post was about IPV. I will stay with SS.

I almost got up to 500 hours on my surf shark VPN but something happen and kill switch went off or went on depends how you look at it so I had to reset it back down to zero. Which took a little bit because sometimes I can’t get a feed until I turn the SS off and on a few times. The best I’ve gotten out of ss without a reset 700 hours.

My IPV service and KIll Switch work on my Nvidia shield tv pro and my Onn pros. Not sure who told you otherwise. Worked in my FS too, when i had them.

The tech ah hem from IPV on a chat told me that. They would not commit to it working. I am only the messenger. I did pressure him about android streaming boxes and the Onn.

Currently, our macOS, Android Mobile, iOS, and Windows apps only support the kill switch feature with a new stand-alone kill switch app for Amazon FireTV devices.

As mentioned, we only have a kill switch for Android MOBILE. That means only for your phones.
