Google’s Gemini AI is coming to more Google TV devices, and it’s creating frustration among cord-cutters. While it’s not possible to fully remove Gemini AI from a Google TV device, we cover some workarounds that can help improve your streaming experience. A forced onboarding screen titled “Meet Gemini for TV” now appears when you press…

Yup: settings>privacy>Voice assistant the option menu will be titled Gemini for TV, it replaces Google assistant.
It will stop all voice control so…
There is also a mic in the Pro with a switch on the side to disable the Pros builtin microphone.
I should have mentioned you will have to select the “Got It” on the screen shown in the screen shot.
This is a great discussion point @joe981 and great response @Timwort. We will be covering this topic on the website soon
I dug deep into this yesterday and it isn’t as easy as just flipping a switch. It gets integrated into every Google module you have and you have to individually dig into each one and even then you can’t remove it, just limit its response to your input or usage. I look forward to your work on this @TP-Ryan as I’m sure you’ll understand and know more about this than I do. I attempted to shut it down and succeeded in only one module. A lot of work and not much help.
Yea from what I’ve researched and tested so far - You can’t completely remove Gemini from Google TV devices like you said. There are some workarounds to help mitigate it like customizing voice assistant settings, custom launchers, etc.
Well @Miki I use Projectivy , the only time I see Gemini is occasionally sound from the current running show will be interpreted as “Hey Google”. I did not try to disable it.
Google assistant is notorious for responding to weird phrases somehow interpreted as “Hey Google” and Gemini seems worse.
Amazon did a much better job with that particular part of wake word recognition than Google has.
With Alexa you can use different wake words, no so with Google.
Have a good day folks.
I have actually never had any interaction or reaction, from any of my Google devices, from Gemini, and I disabled google voice assistant and all my microphones a long time ago. I have turned down every single popup request by Gemini and refused to accept them. So far in the past month or so I have never had Gemini interactions. The only voice stuff I have turned on is my Buzz P6L Remote for voice search and my Tablet for voice typing. Everywhere else like my sound system it’s off, and camera’s as well.
Why not try and live with AI? It is a game changer and not going away. I would encourage everyone to at least try and be comfortable with AI. It is rapidly changing our lives faster than anyone thought and not all in a good way. But I have started to use it and stay on top of what is going on as far as how AI is going to change all our lives.
Well, when they get all the bugs, errors and omissions (comissions?) worked out, I may give it a try.
Right now it’s not quite ready for primetine!
I look forward to your constructive input once @TP-Ryan does a review and deep dive.
Brother I’ll tell you why I’m hesitant to trust AI. It’s called humanity, there are always those with bad intentions looking to exploit any and all for power and greed.
As just one small example, say me and my wife or grandson, or someone visiting sits and has a conversation with our phones in listening range. Never think much of it sometime after said conversation you turn your phone on and go to social media, again just as one example. You will start to see ads that had something to do with your previous conversation. At first I was very skeptical, but I wasn’t the only one to notice these targeted ads that were somehow related to our conversations. Google listens to everything, we say. And I mean how far would you be willing to trust Chinese, or Russian AI? Again humanity which created AI doesn’t always have our best interests in mind.
thanks guys i spent all day over the weekend searching and trying everything i found and no luck even if i could just get it to stop poping up i cant even say open google play store it goes right to those pages again drives my nuts what good is it and if i say no thanks when the page pops up it still does it crazy
i did try what Timwort said to do and it does seem to work for now we shall see but now it talks back to me when i do a search it says results for downloder if that what i was searching for is there away to change the voice i did not pick one and now it is a mans voice i will try changing it thanks Timwort (i did figure out how to change the voice) thanks
