I tried to set this function up and followed the video step by step. When I click on the IP address on my Firestick it doesn’t show me any files on my pic to select from. I’m running ipvanish and have turned on the network share function. I’m running a windows 10 laptop on an Ethernet connection, which is the same one my Firestick is on. Any ideas?

I have watched Troy’s videos about IPTV and saving recorded shows to an external hard drive. I see that most of the IPTV services offer # of connections/streams. If a person only has 1 connection / stream does that mean that they can only record 1 show at the same time? For example, I want to record 2 shows at 7 PM - 8 PM on Wednesday. Is that possible to do with 1 connection / stream? Or would that require two? Same question about watching 1 show at 7 PM and recording another at the same time.

Thanks.

For whatever you are doing just remember, one stream equals one connection. So you can’t watch a live show (stream) and record at the same time (2nd stream) , you will need 2 connections.

Fwiw, if getting that second connection is important to you I would advise getting a second service instead of adding the other connection to your current service.

I actually have 3 services and 2 connections for each. Kinda overkill for most though.

At this point, I have 4…2 with 2 connections, 2 with 1 each.

Even the best services will have channels down at times. My 2 cents was saying that it’s better to have your eggs in two baskets rather than one.

Some devices / apps make recording easy via USB or network storage - so may help if you provide more info about the device / app you are using.

Do you intend to keep these recordings or is it just to watch something that is on different channels at the same time?

If it is the latter, then a service that offers catchup could be your perfect answer - catchup is offered for popular channels and normally you can rewatch a broadcast from upto 7 days depending on your service

I got in the habit of recording things when I owned TiVo’s and I still am doing it to this day. I do this for two reasons. First, with a recording, I can skip commercials. Secondly, I can watch sporting events at a time that suits me.

Football games and other sports events can be long, so I tried using external drives formatted with NTFS and Exfat which can have files greater than 4Gb. I have an external drive formatted in NTFS and recording to it works fine with my Nvidia Shield Pro.

I started out using the Fire devices and currently have two Cube 2’s and two Cube 3’s. The cube 3’s come with an ability to read NTFS drives. However, I have unable to get any apps to write to them (ntfs drives). If you try and use an ex-fat drive in a cube 3, it will try to reformat it as external or internal with fat32.

So I went with the flow and used a fat32 drive with the Cube 3. Today I was able to use Tivimate to record part of a football game to the fat32 drive! However, I tried the same thing with an XCIPTV app clone, and it saw the Drive but would not record to it. I have not yet tried the sparkle TV app.

I have been unable to get any recording working with a Fire Cube 2. Let me know if you do.
