The above comment is not needed and it is happening more often. Just because information in here doesn’t affect you, doesn’t mean it might not help someone else. Maybe just keep your thoughts to yourself next time?
I have kicked around this very idea of installing Linux Mint on my old gaming computer turned media server. It runs Windows 10, but also isn’t eligible for Windows 11. I had done a little research on Mint vs W-10 running the media server, but came out undecided and still haven’t flipped it over.
Actually I ran accros that article and posted it more for the plex content but yes it is on mint and he shows a very detailed(copy and paste) install to set up a plex server.
You CAN update your old windows 10 to 11 with a few tweaks if you really wanted to. BUT the idea of going with Linux is very appealing as I have so many extra pcs nowadays, Im going for it…now which distro? MInt seems the best choice, but I have had good luck with others. Thanks!!
So AMD237 I take it to your speaking to my post when you indicate it was unnecessary has happened too many times now! So I take it it’s okay for all you guys to joke around and clown everybody else but I cannot do that! Is that what you’re telling me now is that it’s okay for you guys to joke around but I can’t! That it’s okay for you to joke around but not me! Explain this to me very clearly and precise, so that way I may not offend you in any way, and also for everybody else to act in the same manner that you speak of or that you request!
We joke in here, sure. It is a fun community. A yawn after someone’s post is neither funny nor does it do anything but waste a spot in the thread where someone else could write something of value.
You indicated that this comment was unnecessary and happening more often, that’s the first and only time I’ve ever used a yawning symbol! So you’re obviously mistaken about the yawning symbol or you got a problem with other things I have said or wrote on this forum!
I never said you specifically, and I never said the “yawning” symbol. It is the disrespect of people’s posts that is happening more than I ever remember. Regardless, I said it, let’s move on.
Yes lets move on!

Curious to know how many TP followers use Linux vs Windows. Having used only Microsoft based computers, should I stick to them? What’s so great Linux vs Windows?
Reece is absolutely correct. It ain’t too tuf either. takes an extra 15-20 minutes per install or easier if you change the image you use. Full installs from scratch are long gone. Too many places to find a clean image out there.
With Linux…almost everything is free (like 99.99% except RedHat
).
Linux has its’ own version of MS Office, Video/Sound editors, etc…
The kernel or core is usually tiny and can be updated.
You might find it much faster than even a stripped down Windows PC for many tasks. Browsers tend to me more secure (IMHO).
Distros are almost always free. Unbuntu rocks but Mint is just more user friendly to previous Windows users.
Consider trying it for an older laptop/pc. You might be surprised.
Good Luck!
ALSMOST forgot…LInux boots faster than Windows…and has lower overhead (wasted resources)
Cool post Ron.

How long did the install take?
WELL I re-install a few times a year. Keeps it fresh, fast and me in practice
… Depending on setup…a new install only takes a few minutes, setting it up about an hour(for me)…a a newbie will take time and should.
I dual boot both Windows and Linux Mint. The Mint install makes it easy to do that if you choose, and you get the best of both worlds in that scenario. I’m a techie so this scratches an itch for me.
I would like to see somebody develop a video and share this video with the rest of us exactly how to convert our computers to Linux. That’s what I like about Troy and his website, he explains it in a video very clear and concise how to download or set up a program. I myself on another topic or thread that I’m surprised these aren’t combined yet, download a three videos about Linux, but none of them show how to convert a computer to Linux. I have not yet found on the internet any kind of material to explain that or show me how to do it.! Most people speak of a command prompt, I’ve used it myself just for a simple programs on my computer. That’s the big stumbling block to Linux. But I thought there was enough apps out in the distros to run a program without the command prompt?
Thanks we’ll see how it goes.
Make sure the vid you follow is using your version of windows as I believe it changes somewhat over time. I havent dual booted in ages. Dual boot is a fall back for when you get frustrated in linux but over time you get more comfortable with linux and eventually you will find yourself selecting linux more and more. ![]()
