I installed the new update on my Onn box. I have tried about 5 times to increase the storage capacity using the web page that Troy has his review on. I did make a few mistakes, and had to start all over again because I couldn’t go back to the spot I goofed up and correct my mistake. Each time I did, I went back and uninstalled the adb app to make sure all the other stuff i had typed would not show up again. Since I couldn’t go back and erase my error, and retype it, I didn’t have a choice. Anyway, I got to sm list-volumes,private mounted null, emulated mounted null. After that it was supposed to say private: 8,2 unmountable. In the beginning, I had the same 8,0 number that Troy did. But when I got to the private unmountable part Troys came up 8,2 nothing came up for me. Troy said that the private:8,2 unmountable was a good sign, and if it didn’t show up something was wrong. I hope some one knows what I am trying to say and can help me out.
@JesseB Hi
Ok first thing first there is indeed few mistake you could be making but if you follow the steps again it could solve USB problem.
Follow up steps
Format USB drive/Fat32
Downloading the required app
Adding the required settings for USB drive
Pointing the correct ip address and port eg: 127… port 55…
Adding command shell and do on.
Visit the link from troypoint and scroll down to
“Supercharge onn. Android TV Box Video”
and review the video again few times if necessary.
This will explain exactly how to add storage en so on.
I just finished trying again, using the same video that Tpoint has in his Onn review. This makes about 10 times I have tried in 2 days.Every time I get to the commands that say “private mounted null and emulated mounted null” it comes up saying " private:8,2 unmountable" Troy says that is a important part to get. but it never shows up. He says if it doesn’t show up, go back and type the public and private partition disk that I entered earlier. But there is no way to do that without starting at the beginning all over again.I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the ADB Shell a few time in order to do that. Its really getting to be a pain. $^^(&E$#(*)
Hi again this is long story but be patient to read it
Yes indeed sad to hear that, when you entered the command shell in remote ADB shell results shows 0 and not 8,2 as TP mentioned in the video
TP mentioned in the beginning that it is very important to check for updates, updates are important and it will update the remote control because many users have issues with their remote and being disconnected constantly from the remote due to the lack of updates.
But I assume you dun that already.
The fault could be in two sections the USB and Command Shell.
Check the command shell for typos eg mis typed letter, number ., , or space it could also be when copying and pasting atekst. To do that go back with your remote and retype the command’s
“That is why it is important to check for updates as TP mentioned from the beginning”. But in your case you didn’t get any errors, if yes consider update from the beginning.
If this doesn’t solve the problem consider checking the USB.
Format USB drive to Fat32
Don’t plugin the USB drive from the beginning.
Then follow those settings again
Settings Click on build 7 times this will allow you to enter the developer options> go back to enter the developer options> USB Debugging on this will allow you to use third party launcher> point 5 windows animation/transition animation scale, and animator duration scale to speed up the transition interface, those settings could be changed according to TP video> The last Change you must make is down to below, Force allow apps on external must be on, this will allow you to expand internal storage on USB drive this is also very important.
After the above steps download the apps
Remote ADB shell
Launcher Manager for Android TV
Wolf launcher
Fast task killer
Expand external storage with the USB drive
From home screen
Settings> Device preferences> Storage> Internal storages to see how much internal storage you have, before doing anything else
" Now you can insert the USB to OTG "
make sure you have formatted the USB drive to Fat32 because you can’t do that from system settings"
When inserting the USB message will pop-up on the top right of the screen
Unsupported … Device
Open Remote ADB shell app from Sideload Launcher click ok you can type in the IP address of your device but the local IP address is preferred as shown below.
127.0.1.1
Keep the Port as it is.
5555
Click ok ok again> in the pop-up message Allow USB debugging select allowed, this will always be allowed from this computer.
Then enter the following command.
sm list-disks
hit the enter button, in the next screen on the top left will show the disk name is in this case 8,0 this will be needed for later command.
Then enter the following commands.
Note:
After hitting the enter button from each command, you must wait till it shows the return results in the top left of the screen. If not go back and repeat the comand.
sm has-adobtable true
sm set-force-adobtable on
sm partition disk:8,0 public
sm partition disk:8,0 private
sm list-volumes
After the last command you will see
private 8,2 unmountable.
Note:
If you don’t see private 8,2 you have to repeat the two partitions commands public and private. In this case you should go back three times with your remote.
In this case why you should update from the beginning. If everything goes well enter the following command.
sm format private:8,2
Hit enter this will take little longer depends on the size of the USB drive, and because it will take the 8,2 unmountable. After that your device will start to reboot.
After completing the above settings you can complete watching the video for further settings.
I can relate…after discovering that I had a “bad” 128gb scandisk usb, I found an “off brand” 128gb (I think it is smi?) that has been sitting in a drawer since I got it as a promo, and managed to get thru the adb shell process, (8,2 showed up!) but now the files will not “migrate”, and so apps on the usb won’t open unless I move them to the onn device. I have repeated the process numerous times, and the frustration level has peaked!!! Currently on a "break"
These look like the same instructions Troy has in his video. But I will try again. Thanks
Yes indeed the same as TP video, with special attention to:
. Formatting USB to Fat32
. Updates and Remote Control
. Settings
. Inserting the USB in OTG in the right steps
. Command shell eg typos
Can the new storage be made available for apps to use for recording or downloading?
I go to set a new directory and internal is only one listed.
aka path:/storage/emulated/0/
@mdmccon Hi
Welcome to the group
That’s why they called storage.
If you’re using Onn tv box just follow the steps above in this topic.
Must give extra attention to the USB drive also as mentioned above.
I am able to do everything the guide says and that works, moving apps and such.
In Cinema I have over 50 GB storage for downloads so that works
In Smarters I can only use Internal storage for setting recording directory, I just wanted to know if I can fix that.
I assume you mean IPTV Smarter
Yes you can change it. But Recording will likely require a USB Drive for storage purposes. You should make sure that it’s properly formatted as FAT32.
To record.
When you click on recording> Browse menu will pop-up with the ability to Choose Recording Directory then navigate to and select the formatted USB drive also on the top right you can select new folder and give it a name then click ok> After that you click on Start Recording.
Note: For my knowledge. IPTV Smarter will allow you to record once at a time. Each time create new folder for the specific movie or TV show you’re recording. So you can find every recorded in it’s own folder.
Thank You, Matrix
I was thinking about trying to use a hub and put one in and
go through the process of adding it as adoptable and then
add a second for other storage. I know it’s overkill I’m just
seeing what I can do to it.
Yes you can use hub but you should always considering which one to choose and use:
Main Types
“The text bandwidth, and USB 3.0 will direct you to Wikipedia for more explanation”
USB hub can be divided into three types according to the USB protocol. They are USB2.0 HUB, USB3.0 HUB and USB3.1 HUB respectively.
- HUB 2.0 hub supports USB 2.0 anddownwardly compatiblewith USB2.0/1.1, the theoretical bandwidth can reachup to 480Mbps.
- HUB 3.0 hub supports USB 3.0 anddownwardly compatiblewith USB3.0/1.1, the theoretical bandwidthcan reachup to 5Gbps.
- HUB 3.1 hub supports USB 3.1 anddownwardly compatiblewith USB3.0/2.0/1.1, the theoretical bandwidth can reach up to 10Gbps.
Therefore, you should choose a suitable USB hub according to your demand.
But before doing anything first read the manual created by TP.

I’ve added a flash to my Onn pro. Just got a onn+ , really impressed w/ responsiveness. Just need clarification on when to enable or disable adb debug ? With it enabled , usb doesnt show. So do i disable it > format to internal >then enable it once it’s format or leave disabled ?
I’m going home to try it again after watchin tp vid on adding storage. Just thought it might be different for the new onn+. Thoughts ??
i bought an onn+ and had no problem formatting as external storage a 500GB ssd drive…i will try tivimate recording to it this weekend as i have to update my tivimate app to the newest one after i make backups to the current one…think i’m on 5.10 but not at home to check…both my boxes currently record great…i’m going to back up my settings and update to newest tivimate 5.16…then try older and newer tivimate configurations on the onn+ to try and record..will post findings this weekend..luv testing stuff
edit: forgot to add sparkle also records great but not as versatile as tivimate? will also backup those settings and try it on the onn+
test onn…lol
