The wife and I had the latest and greatest google pixel phones. After about 1 yr they both had the back blow off with the swollen battery issue. Google refused to do anything and offered me a $10 discount on new phones. As if. Google sucks and I won’t buy any of their electronics unless there is no other choice.
Depends, all phones are made to crap out at a certain range forcing you to buy a new one. It’s a all a cash grab, forcing you to get device protection… I go with oneplus… modded android os and not firmware locked.
I change mine out about every 10-15 years. Put it this way. I had a Samsung S1 (2009) while I was working and that was an upgrade from a flip phone. I updated the Samsung S1 to a Samsung S4 and then to a S8 and that is what I am using to date.
The biggest thing they use to get you to buy a new phone is the processing power. Is the newest model usually more powerful? Yes, but that doesn’t mean you need it. I think of it as using a monster truck to go through a mud puddle. 99% of users don’t need the highest end components to send a text or pay so music scroll Facebook etc. I usually go mid level and run it till it dies
security patches are a joke and scare tactics. Patches can be done via software update not a whole phone upgrade. Hackers can easily get your phone data regardless of whats been done. All they have to do is make a bad app and boom. So, without being rude the best way to avoid this is use common sense., clean your phone out with software and watch out.
If they are available you can download directly with your phones settings and update phone. If they are there for your phone you can update. Chances are they stop updating phones to scare you into buying a new phone. If you are not doing anything crazy you wont need them. infact you can get a vpn and cleaning stuff on your phone.
Thank you so much. I’m switching back to using my Note 8. I use my vpn most of the time and run antivirus software after downloading any new apps. Don’t really download too many apps on my phone.
Really use my phone for calls, textings and occassional secure online shopping.
