How about the new NFL Kickoff rule

What’s everybody think of the NFL new kickoff rule?

I think most teams will sacrifice a return and give up 5 yards to put them at the 30. I think the NFL messed up on this one.

Is it possible to 1000% agree?

MarkxG,
You are spot on.
The line up kills the long return we all love to re-watch on the late night news.

Dear Roger Goodell
My opinion of the is new rule that @##$%@#$#$$#$%#%^$%^&^(^&(&^&%^$%#$%$#^$()+)(&^%$%^&()(&^%$$$$$$$%^&()07501725092(&^%$$%^&()(&^%$$$$$$$$%^&()…
and that’s all I got to say about that.

( I hope Miki overlooks that the language.)

What happened today should make every team realize that the safe thing to do is to put the ball in the endzone. 3 long returns including a return TD. My only ? is why not save time and just start with the ball on the 30, without having to kick off to the endzone.

The NFL should try playing Canadian Rules, the CFL and of course on a Canadian field. The game would change substantially and many would have a very hard time if you know the differences. That being said, I will watch the Superbowl game yet again, mostly for the USA commericals if I am lucky enough to tune into an American station so they are not preempted by the CRTC

I think it’s lame and ridiculous. How about the new “Illegal Formation” penalty on the offensive line if a players helmet isn’t above the belt line of the center?

All I know is the NFL decline started when they removed this…

The rule stinks. Might as well just place the ball on the 30 (or 25) each time after a score and not go through the embarrassing motions of the new setup.

it’s dumb…I mean landing zone? What is this an airport or football?

You think that’s dumb check out the 12th man as a holder (only) in windy conditions.Or how about you can only attempt an onside kick in the 4th quarter, and you have to announce it first.I swear the owners were drunk when they came up with this entire mess.

10000% agree. They need to move it from the 30 to the 40. Unfortunately the NFL is stubborn to admit they make mistakes in season and we will need to live with this mistake for the entire season.

Pretty soon all the players will be wearing flags on their hips.

Given the size and speed of today’s players, the new rule certainly makes sense from a player safety standpoint (although it is exceedingly strange to watch). And evidently, it doesn’t eliminate the possibility of spectacular kick-off returns (there were 2 or 3 yesterday), so there is that!

I grew up in the days of Mean Joe Green,Terry Bradshaw,Roger Staubach,Ed Too Tall Jones, just to name a few. This is a man’s sport,if you don’t want to risk cte or common injuries associated with the NFL,choose another profession.I mean they make damn good money, but please don’t make the game any softer than it already is.

It’d be the same as putting a bubble helmet on a boxer or mma athlete. At some point they have to man up.

From a spectator side of things, I agree 100%. This is the softest the game has ever been. If you breath on a QB, it is a personal foul or targeting/ejection. From the other side of things, they are trying to make it so these players can make a good living for 10+ years, and then be able to be healthy enough to live a long life raising a family after football. The entertainment value has definitely suffered, but I do think there are less serious injuries (head/neck/spinal cord) now, which is nice to see on the personal side of the sport.
