Google Freeplay TV Error multiple devices

I’m scratching my head on this one…

After you are done laughing at me for actually using the Google TV option, i have a very weird problem.

On my Nvidia shield tv pro, my Onn 4k Pro and Reg Onn 4k i am not able to access Google Freeplay TV. All at the same physical location.

On my Nvidia, the “Live” section just states “something went wrong. Try again”. There is no channel guide. I am also unable to open the Freeplay app.

I can access Tubi and Pluto via their apps.

I have done everything except a factory reset because i am waiting for the software update to see if that kicks it back into working. I rebooted, unplugged, rebooted my router and logged out and back into of my account. Used my phone hotspot to make sure my ISP wasnt to blame and turned vpn on and off. No change.

On both my Onn boxes i get the channel guide in Live section but when i select a Google TV channel it wont load the show. Gives an error message. I can access Pluto shows from the guide.

However, my Onn Pro at the family’s house Freeplay works with no problem. Just tested yesterday.

Finally i rehooked up the $11 POS TX pro device from Alibaba and it worked without issue on the same Wifi that the others do not work. Same google account.

Which is leaving me to think some app or setting is blocking me but i have no idea which one it might be or how to find out.

I guess I will factory reset my Reg Onn 4k to see of that fixes it but then I’ll have figure out app by app as I add them back. Not looking forward to that.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

That is strange indeed. This is probably not a fix but before factory resetting are you able to log out of your Google account on the ONN Box and log back in?

Yeah i logged out and back in and even used a back up account. Same issue.

I now remember the Onn mentioned something about a Connection issue or Ad Bloker. The only ones i have are Smarttube and TDUK DNS app. I deleted both on the Reg Onn 4k but still getting the message.

Unless another app is blocking ads and i dont know.

I am going to factory reset later. Hopefully someone has a solution before then.

Well the factory reset on the Onn 4k seemed to have fixed the issue. This leads me to believe it was an app that was causing the issue.

My prime suspect is the TDUK DNS app as it was the last one loaded on all 3 devices and not on the devices that worked.

Plus the onn mentioned about having an ad blocker might cause the issue. I’ll have to test a little more to be sure.

Factory reset the Nvidia and its back to normal. Pain in the ass but its done.

Tomorrow the Onn Pro gets reset.

After the Onn Pro is done I may install the tduk app on the TX 10 and see if it gives me the same error (eventually) . I’ll leave the others alone for now.

I asked TDUK if he is aware of any issues in another thread.

Not sure if this app/feature is available in the UK so maybe its not something he can test.

You can stop the encrypted DNS connection in the app to see if that fixes the problem or try adding Google DNS setting in TDUK DNS app and select that setting when you want to watch Google Freeplay TV.

Ugh…As a non VPN user and someone who doesn’t use any of these cleaning apps or TDUK DNS, Monitor DOT, or any type of maintenance or cleaning apps on any of my boxes with no issues - feel better about my choices. I don’t have any of the headaches that I read about here constantly. And what the Hell is a Kill switch? LOL Glad you are getting your boxes fixed

After resetting 2 of the 3 devices TDUK replied to my other post. Apparently you have to disconnect the server in his app even though it looks like it isnt connected.

So i had to reconnect so i could select disconnect. The option wasnt clickable unless i hit connect first. A little odd.

I tested on the Onn Pro and was able to get Freeplay back without a factory reset. So for that i am happy.

Thanks. Thats what it was but i had thought it was disconnect but apparently it wasn’t.

If I understood correctly, when we were testing it, his app actually just changes your DNS configuration and so doesn’t need to be running in the background once you set up an encrypted connection. So from that point on you will have that encrypted server, in your settings, as your DNS supplier of choice. So if you want to change back you need to use his app to disconnect from the encrypted server and return your settings to “stock”. Kinda like the Wolf Launcher, you need the Launcher Manager to activate it and the Launcher Mgr. Again to return to stock.

Yes that’s what happened. I thought that uninstalling the app would have disconnected me from the dns but obviously its not the case.

Its a little confusing after you forget if you are using it and the app says you need to connect. You think you aren’t but you are still connected. And you cant use the Test option either unless you hit the connect option again.

Should probably have a connection status so its easier to tell.

Go in the settings on the vpn and turn off the threat protect on your vpn. That fixed my problem.

The Onn Pro model… I am using projectivy launcher. Before i use the launcher Google Freeplay is in my apps list. When I enable the launcher, Free play is not in the Apps? How do I enable that app to be visible?

Thanks @doug69b and welcome to TroyPoint!

This issue was definitely with the tduk dns app. For whatever reason that app is affected but other FAST apps aren’t.

If I remember right you indicated that you do have an IPTV provider, what app do you use for that?

That’s right. My service uses their own propietary App

Maybe that’s why your IPTV provider works so well? Maybe a lot of these providers don’t work well with tivi mate

I personally think it’s because of the intelligent managing of the service that restricts the number of customers and thus does not overload the servers. Most others are just plain greedy.

You @Miki know the business better than most of us. To me it’s kind of trial and error or just plain luck. That’s what’s good about having the locked category people share their experiences with their IPTV provider however if you get a good one like @MarkxG has and you don’t give up your stuff! LOL

Yup. That’s it exactly. On the very rare occasion they do allow some new members. I had the chance but decided against it due to the proprietary app needed. I love my Tivimate and have no issues with my 3 suppliers.
