Before I confront my ISP (Comcast), I want to be sure about a few things…
I pay for 1 gig in my home, but none of my 5 streaming devices ever see over 200 mbps Wi-Fi speeds.
The plan I have includes up to 3 Xpod Wi-Fi extenders if deemed necessary.
Can someone tell me what the maximum handling speed capacity is of the Amazon 4K fire stick and the new Walmart Onn 4K streaming device?
I was once told by Comcast that my devices had to be able to process the higher speeds. I’m sure I should see more than 60 Mbps when I do a speed test with Analiti.
Thank you for your comments on this issue.
get the xfinity app on your phone, sign in and do a speed test. Run a speedtest from a pc if possible thats hard wired to the router and compare speeds. The xfinity app test is testing the speed on the line up to you router. The pc test is testing the speed through the router. Compare and post results if possible.
Don’t know about the Amazon 4k but the ONN has the 5 gigahertz band radio so it is capable of 1 gig speeds. I just did an Analiti speed test on my older model ONN (no VPN) & got 363Mbps over wifi using the 5 gigahertz bandwidth. I have 1Gig speed to the modem thru Comcast (albeit my modem is only capable of 850Mbps). Doing a speed test with Ookla thru my hard wired laptop I get in the low 800Mbps.
Not sure if you’re using Comcast equipment or not, but your speed is guaranteed “up to” 1 Gig, to the modem thru their equipment. Like TXRon said…you need to do a speed test (Ookla) via an ethernet cable from your router to a relatively modern computer & see what you get there…that will be the most accurate test of true speed to your modem. After that number is determined…any troubleshooting that is needed can have a good starting point. If you try this…let us know how things go…
Edit: Make sure you test several different servers w/Ookla speedtest dot net
Thanks guys…
I will do your suggested test at some point tomorrow I hope.
Have a good evening.
