Does this explain why I keep getting all these phishing emails telling me I’ve won this or that or “Let’s Begin” with some kind of attachment added with gibberish letters which I don’t ever open. This has been really bad lately, at least one per day.

You are right, I use proton mail also but had my old, and oldest gmail account make forwarded and that’s where all these emails come from. I kept getting a daily email throughout August telling me my Cloud Storage Cloud sync payment could not be processed, warning I will lose everything. The gmail comes with an attachment that I never opened. Two days ago I had a fraud alert from VISA. A $300 charge was pending from Google Cloud!VISA flagged it as fraud when Google Cloud added another $500!!! They’ve blocked it and it’s under investigation, so I was not charged. But WTH?

Been using Gmail for at least 20 years not natively but through Outlook. Tons of SPAM daily but SPAM filter catches most of them. The few strays that get through I just delete em. Not an issue for me and certainly nothing to cause me to ever leave Gmail
I moved to proton mainly to de-google my life. Yeah I know we don’t have privacy anymore in hardly anything but I hate these big tech cos.
