So I was having a problem with Surfshark that I was only getting 1 of my 2 providers to work on Tivimate simultaneously. Tried Proton Free and they are working great. The only drawback so far is no tunneling. This has only effected Prime Video so no big deal turning vpn off. My big question is streaming. I’m now using Stremio exclusively. I still have Kodi as back up but I got tired of having to completely re- doing it. So just wondering how well it is working for Stremio and similar apps? And if it works well, why pay for one of the upgrades and which one is recommended?
I have Proton Plus. Paid for 2 yrs. Has speed up tech which gives me amazing speed. 150 down from my ISP and with ProtonVPN I get 95 down and 80 up with 8 ppl on the network.
Lets just say you get what you pay for. To date Mullvad “was” my fastest vpn with zero issues but proton actually equals or exceeds that performance…at least for me. I like Miki am paid up for 2 years and now have all proton products and now im impressed with the password manager. I still have bitwarden but will soon drop them in favor of proton. Proton is always making things better imho.
Miki I know you’re using stremio . I use torrentio with RD. Any security problems or streaming issues .
None at all. I’ve used Stremio with Proton for over a year. Not one hiccup.
So I guess the only reason to pay would be to use it on multiple devices at the same time.Oh and thank you for your response.
Oh no. Buying it opens up a world of options in the settings not available on the free, not to mention hundreds more locations and servers.
What Miki said is true; however, for streaming, the multiple servers is the attraction.
I can say that even the free version has been more reliable than IPVanish.
The speed technology is enough reason to upgrade. But all the other features are so worth it. Try the free with Stremio and let us know how it works. I don’t use RD with it only my vpn and it hardly ever hiccups!
Worked good last night. Streamed for 3 hours. No Problems. Using Onn , largest file was about 9 gb. I’ll let you know if I have problems.
So while we’re talking Stremio . Do you Guys set to match frame rate and resolution. Or either of them?
The only settings I change in Stremio are for the subtitles. Other than that I don’t change anything and I use the apps exo player. Never a problem for me.
How is Proton paid compared to ExpressVPN ? Want to try one of these .
Both I consider to be my top choices. I use to have ExpressVPN but when they increased prices I switched to Proton with a special 2 yr deal. But once I found out that Proton does not give you access, to the full spectrum of options in the settings, on streaming devices, I cancelled my auto renewal and will be switching to ExpressVPN.
Does it matter to have all the options on streaming devices? If there aren’t any problems why are the options needed?
The options do stuff like ad blocking, multi hop, kill switch, and so on. There are a lot of options that are valuable imho. If I’m paying for something I’d like to be able to use all of it. Kinda like buying a Motorcycle but you can’t drive it at night in Canada because you can’t turn the lights on as it isn’t an option available for Canadian drivers. Works ok though.
The question in my mind is, why wouldn’t you want more options and features? Some people dont mind roll up windows with no cd player, but most want the features the better cars come with. Safety detection, power everything, etc etc.
I agree . I have those options with Surfshark and use kill switch and add blocker. Not sure if I absolutely need them. I pretty much use just Tivimate and Stremio, and can’t remember any annoying adds before I used SS. I also use the vpn monitor dot, which seems to work well. Never used multi hop so not sure about that.I do like all these options , but have had too many problems with SS.Also Proton is way faster.Right now I’ve got about a year left on SS so I’m gonna use Proton free until SS expires and maybe by then Proton will have those options available on streaming devices. If not and SS hasn’t improved I’ll look into Express.
Proton does have the speedup tech in their system and I get great speeds for all my Streaming needs. I wouldn’t hold my breath for getting those options available on streaming devices. Proton stated most emphatically that streaming is not something they care about. Their customer service does take a long time to respond but after over a year with them I only ever contacted them to find out why they don’t enable the options. After weekly contacts for 4 months they just stopped with the corporate line " we are working on it" and sent me that terse email. ExpressVPN for me on renewal date.
Miki if you were to put Proton on your router would you have access to those options?
