I just wonder when Google will “close the door” too?
Bought in the US. The unit just updated. I no longer see a Toshiba splash screen! Goes straight to the Fire tv screen. Saves about 15 seconds!
Just purchased a Hisense Fire TV in the US and had no problems once developer options were enabled and Unknown Sources were allowed.
Thank you for this information. I spent 3 hours on the Chat line with Amazon Fire TV customer support on Tuesday. I spoke with 4 different agents and none of them were able to resolve the issue. I was advised to call back, but I will have to allocate a full morning or afternoon to do this. I fear it is the Panasonic TV itself which is the issue.
I really have to agree with you on that one.

Hi! I know this was a year ago, but I’m looking at purchasing a 2024 Model PANASONIC TV-65Z90AEB 65" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR OLED TV with Amazon Alexa
It’s not cheap as you will imagine so looking to use it alongside sideloading apps directly to it.
Which tv model Did you buy and do you know if / how I can find out if the above model Is affected?
I’m Uk based.
Thanks
Hi there! I purchased the Panasonic TV-24S50AEY in the UK for my office, but this would not let me sideload third party apps. However, later I purchased a Panasonic TX-55MX800B for my bedroom. I have had no side loading problems with this TV at all.
I hope this is helpful.
Im getting the error
pkg: /data/local/tmp/app-cloner.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK]
What OS verision on Firestick does this app load with? i have fire OS 5.2.9.5
We can’t load anything, including troypoint toolbox.
Do we know what happens when we “Launch Anway” on Cinema, BeeTv etc? Have VPN, and both work still? Will that come back to me?
I suggest reading through this article if you haven’t already - Amazon Blocking 3rd Party Apps on Firestick (Full List)
Going forward we suggest sticking with Google TV/Android TV devices as at some point Amazon will disable side-loading for all of their Fire TV devices - Best Android TV/Google TV Boxes in 2026 (Goodbye Fire TV)
Nothing. They will play just fine, for now. Eventually, the “launch anyway” will be replaced with “Dismiss” and then it’s all over.
I recently purchased a Panasonic 77Z8BAP Fire TV (2025 edition USA) running FireOS 8.1.5.7. This is my first TV in over 10 years, and I have been pleasantly surprised about how easy it is to set up and sideload apps. Even ProjectIvy Launcher is fully functional! (That was easier than I thought it would be).
I’ve been reading alot about FireTV and FireTV devices having issues with sideloading apps, and installing Launchers. Hopefully I can help others! ![]()
I have several Panasonic Fire TV’s all allowing the features of a Fire TV cube or a Fire TV stick. However, one of the TV’s a 24S50AEY (UK) will not allow side loading. I have been informed by Panasonic and the TV supplier Currys (UK), that this feature is not available on this particular TV.
But that reefers directly to the TV itself, not connected devices. When you connect a device to the TV it becomes nothing more than a giant monitor, but with advance settings aimed at the viewing experience. The TV cannot stop you from adding/modifying stuff on your device.
Just out of curiosity, what OS version is intalled on the 24S50AEY, and what year/ediiton is the 24S50AEY (2024, 2025, etc.)?
Hello Glen got a Toshiba
