I’ve been a fan of Cinema for awhile as an other option. It’s good to have options, right 
? Anyhow the other night I tried to open it and it stated that I needed to update. Ok, I tried and it failed on several attempts so I just closed it and went where things work for me. Oh well, Troy did tutorial on Filmplus and pirate77, in another thread, suggested it, so I thought why not. So I just installed Filmplus following Troy’s tutorial. https://troypoint.com/filmplus-apk/
All’s well, but when I tried a test run Filmplus insists that I install BPlayer. OK I tab their provided link to BPlayer and I get a parse error. What the heck is that? It’s not a big deal as Troy said that Filmplus has ads and I would have to have Surf Shark to get rig of the ads. I’m on IPVanish so I would have to put up with ads which is a no go for me.
In reality, the ads are very sparse and for me might only occur after watching something and can almost always be dismissed by the back arrow. Never ever seen an ad during a show. Honestly, even if there was one, considering the great shows they have, I won’t complain. Tubi is now much worse. I only use it for concerts.
The obnoxious ad at the end of every operation on FilmPlus has relegated it from my number one app to a non-starter. Yes, Cleanweb with Surfshark will get rid of them but not everybody wants/has Surfshark. Same with Bee TV and most other VOD apps for the firestick. And if you search on the website for the “official” websites for these apps, they all look remarkably similar… I smell a rat!

Still no idea what the BPlayer issue is with FilmPlus?
I use MX Player with Film plus. Works great.
External player hasn’t been an option with FilmPlus for ages.
I had the same problem with Filmplus 1.8.6 but I downloaded Bplayer from Troypoint toolbox, went to Filmplus settings, set it to Bplayer, on the latest FP version there aren’t so many options to play the links, just click play and all works good.

Be that as it may, but wouldn’t that make you want to use SurfShark or at least until somebody figures out how to either make a better VPN or break the SS worm conspiracy theory and stop the ads? As for me if you have to have a VPN why not use one that stops these ads, even if they allegedly might have created them according to the specualtion in your post? If you can’t beat 'em join them, in the end free tv is all that matter, right? >… or is it?..
I do use Surfshark/Cleanweb but many people don’t. As for “speculation” what are you talking about?
