Hi – I just installed Fen as a replacement for Seren. It all seems to be working fine and is a big improvement in finding new movies and TV series that were “no playable” on Seren.
When I click on a movie or series episode, the sources load up reasonably quickly. However when I select a source, it takes 3 to 4 minutes for the program to start playing. The little half circle just keeps on revolving for up to 4 minutes, which seems like an eternity. With previous add ons, the program would usually start playing within 15-30 seconds (although I did notice that this process on Seren was starting to slow down).
Is anyone else experiencing this with Fen? Any ideas on how to speed this up?
I’m running Kodi 20.2 on a Nvidia Shield Pro
I checked and could not find any other topic related to this issue.
Thanks
Don
Hi Don, I always use Fen or Twilight and not had any issues with the movie or show taking that long to fire up. And this is on a 2nd Gen Cube or my new Shield Pro.
Now when I first got the Pro, the first thing I did was stuck a memory drive into the Pro before it’s initial start up and thought no more about it. I set up Kodi and it was an absolute dawg. Fen took forever to do anything…kinda like what you are describing. I finally posted in an ongoing thread about my issue. I’m thinking that it was Sir Powerfader that suggested that I pull the momory and try that. Lo and behold that’s what the issue was and pulling the drive solved the issue. Now I’m not suggesting that this was the cause but wondering if you have a drive in your Pro and if Kodi is loaded on that drive. Your description just sounded too familiar to me. Otherwise I’m no help and somebody with super troubleshooting abilities may have better suggestions. Please let us know what you find out.
I am glad that you found Fen. I’ve pulled tons more movies and TV shows that were not available on the Crew.
You maybe on to something. Worth looking into the settings for storage on the Shield Pro. Settings>Device Preferences>Storage and look at the settings for SHIELD storage access.
Thanks Jerry – I did have a USB plug in the Shield to operate my mini keyboard remote. I removed it and rebooted the Shield, but alas, no improvement. The 4 minute wait remains. I will look at the storage settings as Miki suggests. Also I noticed there are options in Shield settings to turn the USB ports on/off. I will play around a bit with these settings this afternoon.
Thanks
Don
I just leave my USB mode to auto and have both of the USB Port Power set to Off During Sleep.
Just curious, are you having the same issues with any other addons?
The only other addon I have installed is Seren. and yes, the last few months whenever I could get a tv episode to play, it took at least 2-3 minutes to start. So this probably isn’t an issue with Fen. it has to be a setting in Kodi, or on the Shield.
Don
Unfortunately I am a newbie with my Shield Pro. Miki, Powerfader and TXRon are the gurus with the Shield. I’d say just try installing The Crew to see if there are any changes.
When I was first setting up the Pro I used this youtube video. It really helped me. Maybe there is a setting that is wrong?

I just thought, how is your internet speed?
I was always a Fen supporter. I deleted the old apk and downloaded the new one from Troypoint. All is good until you select a movie or try to play an episode of a series. A “no results” message appears. I tried the couple of suggestions posted regarding this subject , but made no difference. Also, in the last 10 days or so, when I turned on Kodi, a message appeared that an update to Fen was available. I updated on both occasions, assuming the update would fix, but still the same.
I use the other popular Kodi add ons and have no issues with them. I don’t need Fen but as a fan I would love to be able to have it.
Thoughts anyone?
My experience is similar. When I first installed Fen it was terrific, but in the last week or so it has deteriorated. First I found that I had to reset the Coco app every day to fix the recurring “no results”. After a few days even that stopped working. (And yes, Fen has updated twice, to no effect.)
Since I still had my old Seren app installed I went back to give it a try, and lo and behold, it’s working perfectly now! The folks running Seren must have been reading the comments and acted accordingly. Hopefully the folks at Fen will soon have it back in good form.
I have no idea who the people creating and running these add-ons are, but I greatly appreciate all their efforts.
Absolutely @donam1.
Great news re: Seren, but bummer news about the continuing issues with Fen. I used Fen last night with no issues. And had, earlier updated to the latest update.
I am far from being good at any of the stuff but I might suggest trying Twilight, which is a Fen clone. It uses the same Coco scrapers and everything looks the same as Fen other than there are some stuff written Hebrew. (There was a previous question regarding the Hebrew in this addon, that I responded to if interested). I use both daily and really like both. Oh, and I do have both on my Shield Pro and my 2nd Gen Cube.
BTW, Troy does have a tutorial for the Twilight addon.
