European Noir Series

New thread created to allow patrons to share European noir TV series. Looking specifically for crime dramas from European countries that are characterized by a bleak, atmospheric mood, slow-burning, and often psychologically intense storylines, morally complex protagonists, and a focus on social and psychological depth rather than simple mystery-solving.

My initial recommendations:

The Bridge (Bron/Broen). Sweden/Denmark. Copied in The Bridge (USA) and The Tunnel (France/England).

Trapped (Ófærð). Iceland. Producers unfortunately ran out of funding after 3 seasons.

It’s like you asked for this particular series.

The Breslau Murders, 2025 series from Poland, it reminds me of the old US noir movie. Takes place in the late 30s in occupied Poland.

Got additional European noir series to recommend.

  1. The Chestnut Man. Danish. 2021. Season 2 coming in February 2026.
  2. Piste Noir. French. 2023
  3. The Paradise. Finland/Spain. 2020.

My only paid subscription is Acorn TV. Watching “Winter” as I type this. Soooo much good stuff, just check out their web page and start watching wherever you can or subscribe or free trial

Go on IMDB and search for a couple of your favorites. Then, down a couple of screens is a “More Like This” section with selections of series and/or movies like the ones you like.
I can recommend some of the Australian/New Zealand series.
