Downloader missing, unable to download Downloader app

I fired up my Firestick after many years of being down (3-4 years) and I wanted to add the latest Kodi and I can’t find the Downloader app on my stick, I don’t have google play store and when I find the app and try to download, nothing happens. Not sure where to turn.

Sounds like it needs to be jail broke. Enable Developer Options?

Firesticks are Amazon and don’t have or use the playstore, just the Amazon app store.

I have followed Troy’s instructions, made sure Developer Options were enabled, I will double check, Thanks for the info.

I have gone to the search, it finds the big orange pic, but when I click on it to download, it says app no found, I have used a browser and found dowloader.apk out there and when I hit download, nothing happens, there is a disconnect somewhere. I appreciate the link and help.

Miki, my firestick does not have Google Play Store and I can’t seem to download anything, I have checked for settings under “My FireStick” I don’t see anything that would keep things from being downloaded, even tried a 3rd party brower and no luck when I hit download. I almost feel like this is write protected. Strange I appreciate your time and your answer
I have also gone to the Amazon Apps on my Firestick and I see Downloader, but when I click on it, I get the same answer, App Not Found.

That’s odd. What stick do you have? I assume you’ve you’ve enabled developer options and allow 3rd party app install.

I have a gen 2 firestick, bought around 2017-18 timeframe. Downloader was there before, PIA trying to get it back. Thanks Miki

Here is a link to an older version that will work just as well.

Miki, Thanks but I need to be able to open a browser so that I can actually download something, I will give it a try, Very much appreciated.

The Silk browser on the firesticks is optimized for the sticks and will download it and invoke the APK install. Not only that but you can use it to watch sports and movies as well.

Miki, If I download the file, I am downloading the .apk file, were does that end up ? I assume once downloaded, that is will will load the actual app. I have used the silk browser and I find the Downloader.apk and I click on download, the wheel spins and I see nothing. Thanks

With silk open and clicking on the APK which is android package kit it should download it and open the installer automatically. It’s been so long since I did an older stick but you should be able to enable 3rd party apps in My fire Tv.

I looked everywhere figuring there was something that had my FStick locked and would not let me download .apk files, I didn’t find anything. I go to Silk browser and there is the Downloader.apk, I move my cursor to the install button and click, my screen goes dark then I am back to my homepage. Still nothing. Uuugh I see in a message above you mention allow 3rd party app install, where can I find that ? I have gone to developer options, both items are on.

Did you read the site I gave you? That should have your model there with the instructions. Sorry I don’t have one to test and see if there’s something wrong. This is why I replace the old ones when new comes out. An older downloader apk from 2018 should have worked.

If you haven’t used this stick for a number of years wouldn’t it be prudent to at least do an update or maybe even a reset to factory condition?

I can definitely do that, do you think going back to a factory reset would be worth it ? I appreciate your time. Thanks

It is strange issue, I can find the .apk file on the Silk browser but it doesn’t appear to actually download. I have been thinking of moving up and getting a newer version and start fresh. Thanks Miki, you have been a great help.

Personally I think it is a good move. You will then be working with everything up to date. It would probably be much easier to determine where problems would lie.
