Does IPVanish need Google Play Services?

I got a notification that my IPVanish would not work without Google Play Services even though it says my VPN is connected?

Hello,

I have removed IPVanish and Kill from my system.

The reason is I’ve had trouble connecting and I found that reason is IpVanish requires “Google Play Store” to be active in order to run. If I put Google Play in “disable” or “forced closed” IPVanish won’t work.

Why would I need Google to run IPVanish?

So what is going on with IPVanish and Google ?

Does Google own IPVanish is there a deal with Google to monitor the VPN traffic?

I find it hard to understand why a VPN would be in bed with Google?

Done with IPVanish !!

They’re owned by an Israeli security firm

Hi there, no, Google does not own IPVanish. This is just how Google works on Android devices. Many apps (those from the Play Store) rely on Google Play Services to function properly. If you disable Google Play within Settings, you likely break the connection and apps such as IPVanish fail to authenticate or connect.

Hello, I don’t really know anything about IP Vanish (I don’t use a VPN) but a simple Google search answers your question

Thank you for the response,

Thank doesn’t mean that google isn’t monitoring the VPN clients.

Hello,

Thank you for your response and time.

That seems to be only the way IPVanish works. I have and used Surfshark and Bitdefender’s VPNs downloaded from Google Play Store. They work fine when I disable or forced closed Google Play Store as a matter of fact I disable all Google services on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro.

They splash messages on the screen about this and that will not work but, everything works just fine.

I try to shutout as much BS as I can

The other two VPNs work just fine with Google shut down.

P.S I also don’t give Google any permissions except were they are grayed out.

Followup….

I contacted IPVanish about a week ago with this issue and I’m still waiting for a replay.

I think @TP-Brett answered your question but you can verify with IPVanish. They do have someone on TP and they reply usually fast and can help with your issues.

I have used them here in the past and they were very helpful.

Most likely the app needs to be connected to Google Playstore for updates. However you can disable your Play Protect if you like. I dont use IPV any more but never had this problem when I did.

Hi,

Did you trying disabling Play Store while using IPVanish?

There wouldn’t be a problem if you just ran both Play Store and IPVanish.

The problem still stands what is IPVanish doing with Google?

I contacted support a week ago and also cancelled my account asking for a refund for the unused portion. I have yet to get a response.

They wouldn’t have to get in bed with Google for updates; just code updates into the App.

TP-Brett Doesn’t know if that is the way Google works, only assuming. I have Surfshark and Bitdenfender’s VPNs downloaded from the play store and they both work just fine with all Google disabled. If that is the way Google works why not on those too ?

No I have never disabled the Playstore. Only Play Protect.

Have you tried downloading the IPV app from a different source other than the Playstore? With Googles new app requirements you may be better off finding a different place to get your apps if you plan to keep the Playstore disabled.

That’s because it’s in the Play Store and downloading it from there it will auto update if you leave the Google Auto update enabled. I don’t and always manually update as I never trust the auto update. I also have the app scanning disabled.

So the app requires Google to run ? Why doesn’t Bitdefender and Surfshark, both downloaded from the play store, require Google to be active in order to run ? I have used them both with all Google’s stuff disabled on my Nvidia Shield.

No it doesn’t need google to run. If you get it from google then the auto update will be from google, which as I mentioned I turn off. Here is another library you cam get it from.
