I’m not trying to argue with you but “i don’t want more” !! and no need to be snarky about it… i just don’t see your point as to less is better–ram and storage..16Gb might suit you just fine but please don’t assume that i or everyone else fall into that mindset. and Processor : The Onn 4K Plus features a slightly faster processor, the Amlogic S905X5M, compared to the Amlogic S905X4 in the Onn 4K Pro…“Slightly”…sorry but that is not enough to make it a better choice-just IMHO-Don’t get me wrong, I love Troy and ALL that he does for us, but I do not just fall in line and follow blindly along, i read, and i read some more,(mostly because i forgot what i read the first time) and right or wrong i make my own decisions
So, (I guess for any Canadians that DO have the Plus … )
If I were to get the Plus from the US (which is listed as “US/Puerto Rico only” - but I DO have a VPN … would that only impact my setup or my use? (In other words, would my VPN have to be et to US, exclusively)?
The Plus has a better processor. The Pro has more ram. It’s all about personal preference.
The normal confusion about threads here…
I said “slightly” better processor because it is. In my comparison I pointed out I wasn’t picking one over the other, I have a Pro and Plus and when comparing speeds with a VPN I do see better performance from the Plus. I like both and use the Pro most of the time.
I think your referring to a different post when you mention snarky, my post wasn’t.
So I think you mixed up the various comments/posts which is easily done and happens a lot
This is only about the “slightly” part of your post. Maybe @sktn77a post was the other post, his reply to your question?
Don’t get mad at me guys… We’re all Bozos on this bus together! (Anybody know that reference?)
Actually @Timwort, i didn’t use your s’lightly’ statement, i did a Brave search for “Onn Pro Plus Box Differences” and that was part of an AI-generated answer…and if you look you"ll see i responded to @sktn77a, not you…so i did not–mix up-- post…and i ain’t mad at nobody, and i do not know the Bozo reference but i will Brave search it for sure…and if it’s a short bus then yup i’m on it
@Timwort … The Firesign Theatre, and yup, i’m on that bus !!
All three are readily available in Canada sitting on your Walmart shelf. When you bought in the USA as I did, only setup required the hot spot. Now you are free to do as you want with it.
I don’t think the PLUS is in Canada yet.
But, you’re saying - I can jump over the border; get a box, bring it back; use a VPN to set it up; and then I can use it just like my firestick?
“Walmart recently started region-locking US models so they can’t be set up outside the US without a VPN.”
Wow, that’s not good news!
The pro was always like that and easily bypassed. I’ve written tons on this. So have others. No clue about the others. They are available in Canada now as well.
Oops, my bad, I guess the AI and I think alike! I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
The Onn 4K Plus comes with a slightly faster processor, the Amlogic S905X5M, compared to the Amlogic S905X4 found in the Onn 4K Pro.
However, the Onn 4K Pro easily takes the lead with 50% more RAM, offering 3GB compared to the 2GB in the Onn 4K Plus.
I’m not trying to hype one over the other since both are solid choices, but I personally prefer the Onn 4K Pro. Do I necessarily need the extra storage of 32GB versus 16GB? No—but it’s definitely nice to have.
Regardless haven’t used a Fire stick since 2018
here in the US walmart rolled back the price on the onn 4k pro to $45. i like the find your remote feature on the pro, plus the usb port verses buying an OTG plug. honestly.. they both seem to run about the same speeds for me.. but then again.. i have been drinking all day, so everything moves slow.. especailly my girlfriend cooking dinner. lol
Please read the rules.
Topic is “Difference between onn boxes…”
These posts have nothing to do with that. Bullet point #5. In this case pm’s might be a better idea.
Troy added this rule a few weeks ago in an attempt to cut down on posts that wander way off topic. This post does the same thing. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Okay, that make sense, thanks.
Sorry, didn’t see notes.
It’s all good. As long as we all learn, and then put the effort in to make the necessary changes to our posting habits, it would be most helpful. I just appreciate everyones understanding and not shooting the messenger. Have a wonderful week, hopefully buffer free.
