Dealing with Winter Storms

Man, I have got to hand it to ALL of you that deal with the freezing cold and precipitation winters every season, all season long, because here in coastal NC it’s 19°F with -2F chill factor and about 8” or 10” of snow, with 3”-6” more in the forecast before it’s all over, my hat is off to ya, y’all are a hardy breed

I spent the first 50 years of my life battling that weather as I grew up in New Jersey. 6 years go I said goodbye to it all and moved to Vegas. I can deal with the heat so long as air conditioning is available lol. Hang in there and make sure to drip your faucets overnight so your pipes don’t freeze . :folded_hands:

I am in the Great Lakes and I’m so ready for the snow and freezing rain to be over. I like the changing of seasons to include winter. But, I hate having both freezing cold and snow. I’m just ready for dry weather.

@Mslea ….its like your reading my mind, which is ok, just don’t linger to long in there, you mite not be able to find your way back out, lots of nooks and crannys that are better left undisturbed….

Hey @PiratePete , i am with ya on the heat, i grew up in the town i’m in rite now, i loved being about 25 minutes from the ocean, and have said for decades that i would rather sweat than shiver, have never experienced NEGATIVE temps before, and i gotta tell ya, this is some boooo sheeeetz….

P.S. i lived in Lost Wages from 1999ish to Y2K, and had a blast, quite a culture shock to live in the desert where the average annual rainfall was 4” or so, where in the southeast US that could just be a crappy day….

I absolutely love the temps when I lived in Puerto Vallarta Mexico for 4 yrs. No snow and the lowest temps were 16°C or about 65°F, I love temps in the 90°F range, and here we were locked in to temps of -40°C which is pretty much -40°F as well. Not a huge amount of snow all at once but real consistent and never melted. This week we’re finally getting warm .:joy: -5°C to -10. Never wore long pants or long sleeve shirts in Mexico.

I moved from California, to Upstate New York, to North Carolina. Loved the snowy winters in my 30s but not so much in my 70’s….. this last snowstorm in central NC is getting really old!

Thank goodness for Stremio!

lol you all actually got more than we did in the wnc mountains. It was 1F last night with 50mph winds. Cold to say the least. To make matters worse there is still a layer of ice under the snow. Public school was out the entire week last week. The luxuries of living at 4k elevation lol. I saw Charlotte got like 15” lol.

Aaaah yes. You did mention to me that you lived here for a while. Has the cold lifted over there yet? I can’t believe the temperatures they were showing for Florida. Most don’t have heat there if I’m not mistaken

It’s 31°F now @ 335pm Eastern, not a cloud in the sky, 5°F for tonite ….:cold_face::enraged_face::enraged_face::sob:

We got 22” of show and of course my Ariens snow thrower failed to start. My wife and I had to shovel it, it took us 5 long cold hours. I had a mechanic take apart the carburetor and fix it. Dirty high test gas. He also cleaned out fuel that was in the tank.

I hate being the bearer of bad news.

Legendary weather prognosticators, Punxsutawney Phil and General Beauregard Lee, upon seeing their shadows this morning, have predicted that six more weeks of winter is on the way.

Bring It On….I’ve been practicing going to the store….

Video gif. A shirtless man dives into a fresh pile of snow and pretends to swim through it.

I’ve been in Northern Illinois all my life…This winter has been pretty rough so far…

The older I get, the less I want to deal with snow/cold weather…

And not to mention, driving in it…I can do it…seems no one else around here can anymore…lol

Same here, the older I get the less I like dealing with snow. Cold don’t bother me as much as snow and freezing rain. It snowing now and I’m out driving in it. Just tired of being in the house.

I prefer seasonal weather changes. If it’s cold, turn up the heat; if it’s hot use the A/C; If it’s a hurricane warning get scared for a week in advance; if it’s an earthquake you are SOL. No such place as Shangri-la.

I loved autumn with the trees turning colors and the sound of the autumn wind blowing crispy dry leaves across the pavement . Winter however I’m not a fan of as you have to deal with the snow and the cold. I used to do over the road sales in Jersey and sometimes had to park around the corner from my destination and walk in the cold while dancing on ice patches . Either way I’m done with it all as I’m retired . This picture below is a perfect winter for me .
