DB TV Assistant flags as harmful on Def Squid

I think the Def Squid is great, however, it flags the DangBei Assistant (DB TV Assistant) as harmful. I find DB does a good job of cleaning up. I downloaded DB from the rapid app store, so I’m not sure if it should actually be flagged as harmful. Should I uninstall it?

Personally I would do another virus check using say VirusTotal. Then see if it reports a similar find. As mentioned before it could simply be a false positive. Always best to be sure though.

FYI I read up on what was discovered and to err on the side of security immediately deleted DB. However virustotal did not find anything in DB. So not much help really.

The db assistant is in the rapid app installer, it’s been through virus scans, it’s safe to use. It’s a false positive flag.

The troy team wouldn’t put stuff in their rapid app installer to cause harm.

I have just downloaded DB Assist from the RAI and run virus total. This reports 2 viruses:
Jiangmin AdWare.AndroidOS.cfqf
SymanticMobileInsight. Apprisk.generisk

Given that stuff on RAI has been virus checked by the TP team then I believe it to be virus free and these are false positives. Can anyone with more knowledge than me about viruses and their detection (not hard - I am ignorant in this subject) help me to find out how to separate the reports I should worry about from these false positives because at the moment I could be deleting apps which are safe or keeping apps which are not, just because I can’t tell the difference.

Those are false positives. The script of software is mistakenly false labeled them. Even the most high end anti virus software mistakenly will flag the engine as malicious.

If you have gotten a program from a legitimate source it’s a good chance they are false. It happens with better software than virus total. It’s misidentified and it happens. This is whynwe encourage using our app and getting legitimate apps.

The most advanced scripts for detecting virus can flag the most legitimate of stuff. The biggest problem is alot of code used to develop awesome programs and apps can be used for malicious intent. For example, I could take vlc and code it into a keylogger send it to you and it will look just like vlc, but it’s modded. I’m not saying everything is a false positive or everything is bad, just be careful what you download, make sure it’s from legitimate sites.

I talk about this in the security category, you can head over there and ask questions if you want.
