Credit Card Fraud from using WISE to pay MYEPG

I used 1 new particular credit card that I haven’t used for anything else at all except for WISE which I used to pay for MYEPG about a month and a half ago, and today I was notified that my credit card company suspected fraud and contacted me. A charge for an UBER in another country. Now I am getting a new card with a new number, but when it comes time for me to renew with MYEPG, I won’t use WISE for the payment method. I had read enough good stuff about them, now I’ll never trust them. Beware!

I use WISE quite a lot but it’s a good idea to have an account and create a virtual card for things like this and keep it frozen and only unfreeze for long enough to make the purchase.

Yep. I went to pay WISE using a virtual card, and my card issuer declined the charge thinking it might have been fraudulent, then I received an immediate text message asking me if it was a legit charge and I said yes. They told me to do the charge again and they would OK it, but WISE did not let me use the same card again.

Sorry, slight cross-purposes there - I meant have a WISE account. It’s incredibly useful to be able to hold a number of different currencies and convert between them cheaply.

I spend a lot of time abroad and tend to top up my foreign currency balances when the rates are good.

I’ve had good luck using PRIVACY.COM for credit card stuff.

Since I was specifically speaking about using WISE for paying MYEPG, this is what they accept, so I went with WISE. No bank transfer or using PayPal for me.

This is on the MYPEG website.

We do not accept paypal

Are you talking about a physical card?
You should have created a virtual / digital card to pay for the service, then either freeze it or delete it after the payment

If you had actually read the 3rd post, you wouldn’t have needed to say any of that, so I will repeat it. I tried to use a virtual card that I happen to create just to make this charge. The charge was denied by my CC company as possibly fraudulent, and when I told the CC company that it was a legit charge, they told me to go thru it again and they would approve it. Then WISE did not allow that (virtual) card number to be used again, so I went with the physical card. That doesn’t absolve WISE of using that card number for fraud, plus I absolutely know it was them because it was the only charge I made on that physical card.. A virtual card was not able to be used for the reason that I intended it to be used.

Sorry, this doesn’t make sense.
Wise account allows you to create digital cards to use for online payments.

I have a Wise account, I never ordered a physical card and only use digital card for online payments, This is like a debit card NOT a credit card.
I fund my Wise account from my bank account - Wise would never approve a payment if there is no funds in my Wise account.

If I make a payment for goods or service online for the first time, I create a digital card for that payment and then freeze it / would delete if I was not going to use this service again - This payment is only made from a funded Wise account

MikeN, I might just be doing it in a different way than you. I wanted to pay MYEPG, went to the WISE site, and to pay/fund them so they could make the payment to MYEPG, I gave them my virtual card number that I created at my credit card website. It works the same way as PayPal. I use a credit card or a virtual card and PayPal makes the payment to whoever I purchase something from that accepts PayPal and not use physical credit card number. If MYEPG would have accepted a credit card directly from me, they would have gotten a virtual card number, which I would have either closed or froze right after that purchase.

You mentioned funding your WISE account from a bank account. That is not something I would even consider doing, especially now that I know they used my credit card number, or maybe sold it so someone could try and make a fraudulent purchase. I would not give them any access to my bank account or any account where I didn’t have consumer protection. At least my credit card company protected me here and I am not out any money. I live in the US, and the fraudulent charge was made at UBER CANADA. I really appreciate you responding, I appreciate that anybody would respond to anything I post, but I tried the virtual card and in this particular case, it didn’t work for me. The first time a virtual card didn’t work for me.

Wise in UK is like an online bank. Create an account using real info like any bank account ( Revolut is another online bank account in UK)

Re MYEPG

From your post above about payment options - They recommend you contact them via email to find best option to pay for your location as they have accounts in major countries.

Hopefully you will find a solution that works for you to renew MYEPG service

Am sorry to hear you had this experience.
Something went wrong and have no idea how the credit card details got leaked.

How it works is explained on their website for all countries

Thank you Miki, and a Happy Mother’s Day to your mom as well.

Making a payment thru Wise had some minor difficulty, but I didn’t find it to be that big a deal. The big deal is the credit card fraud. They can’t deny it, they were the only place I used that card, and I made the post to let everyone know to be vigilant. Everybody as a first option, should use a virtual card when purchasing many things online. In my case, I had a virtual card, I tried to use it, it didn’t work for me, and I’ll certainly think about it next time as I try and make sure I can avoid any fraud.

Be well.
