TDUK has a new tutorial about an app you can put on both devices to remotely control any firestick from anywhere. I think it it has one issue that is being looked at and that’s that you can’t controll the keyboard remotely. 30 yrs ago we were doing this with windows, I forget what the app was called. I use to fix ppls issues all over the world. TeamViewer I think.
Mom, is that you?
MarkxG, Sorry I’m so late replying to your post, but I find that keeping up with everything that is going on in the Troy community can be a bit overwhelming to say the least, so I do what I can when I can. Your post I can relate to well. It took me a while to figure out this chord cutting age, yet once I did I found it to be rather interesting and my viewing of TV changed significantly whereas I actually enjoy it. The challenge of it all is fun now and again I do what I can when I can. I may get behind for a while but I usually catch right up enjoying the challenge of it all. The real challenge for me is ALL the email I receive with the latest and greatest news. I encourage you to be patient and hang in there because I assure you that you are not alone. Accept what comes your way, do the best you can, and live your life in this ever changing technology world we live in. Good luck to you!
Howdy…65 and gonna retire this year. Early 2000’s started with hacked satellite boxes both dish and direct. What a pain in the butt that was. Spent thousands on the latest greatest gadgets only to be underwhelmed and frustrated. Someone mentioned Kodi and I never looked back. I bought htpc’s out of China and learned how to install on my own with wikipedia. Use Estuary on all four with Real-Debrid and Canadian Vpn. Use 5 or 6 repo’s for everything around the world. My wife and I love drama’s globally. Listen to pandoki for music and Titan and the Crew for sports. Have OTA for locals with Tivo. Try not to miss anything. Been a Patriots fan growing up in Maine. Go Chiefs!!!
For your information, I’m not saying I’m old, if a doctor put you on Xanax for 25 years, you would have a few memory issues also. I am extremely intelligent and have many degrees in computer science, IT network engineer etc. So get off your damn high horse.
Thank you. You are having the exact experience I am having. I really appreciate your encouragement. I will keep trying. My go to saying is LIVE AND LEARN.
You hit the nail on the head. I started doing my own streaming and research at 64 and have had my share of frustration teaching others in our age group about the advantages of true cord cutting and alternative streaming options. Some folks are enthusiastic and able to pick up “how to do it” quickly. Others just can’t be bothered to learn and retain enough knowledge to take advantage of the options (and savings) available to them. That is on them, not us who try to help.
Nailed it Bill! 100% My post was never meant to put down anyone that might have cognitive or health issues that might prevent them from doing certain things. It is for the people who want to be spoon fed without putting in any effort on their end
If you figured out how to use TiviMate and a VPN along IPTV service, you will have no problem with stremio or rd, I use stremio and rd but don’t know how to use tivimate or much about the iptv that people set up for free but I might try to learn it, mostly because I just like to torture myself sometimes, lol.
How would you know the difference?
I wouldn’t unless they told me as some did while lashing out at me. And if I ever saw anyone prefacing that they have some type of Health issue that is preventing them from figuring things out that is a completely different story than somebody that doesn’t want to put in any effort, wants to be spoon fed, and says because they are old they aren’t good at this stuff.
You are asking me to assume if someone says they are old and need help it might be because of some type of Health/cognitive issue that is preventing them from figuring something out. Sure that very well might be the case but without me knowing I’m not going to play that game. It is very easy to tell what posts this thread was created for.
Still can’t fathom how people will pay 200 a month to watch commercials, I would tell him cancel cable, give you 100, let brother buy the hardware and set him up, it’s pretty surprising how fast people learn when they’re getting a much superior product for sooo much less money.
Well I am 54 and have pretty much self taught/researched here and there over the last 10 years.
I still consider myself a novice when it comes to kodi issues but better than anyone i know personally. Anyone i know that was gifted a loaded FS with kodi gave up years ago. They all had the impression that you plug it in and it will work forever. No interest in working out solutions. Just pay the cable/streaming bill.
I understand the point of the thread and agree. If you made it this far where you recognized a problem, Googled it, found the TroyPoint website, and then joined the discussion thread. You could have put a little more effort into searching for the answer here and trying to work out the solution. If i get the intention of the thread correctly.
To me the age isnt the issue its the ambition and comfort level. I’ll never call myself the smartest in the room and i know there have been times I was the dumbest. But if i can just learn something from it then it helped me.
What I did was make her keep the remote in her hand and talk her thu it, she slowly learned.
Simple shortcut for restarting, hold play and select button at the same time.
Indeed, I think a lot of younger people are pretty thrifty these day, probably out of necessity, I think if anyone around 35 or younger opened a cable bill that said 200 bucks they would faint, yet older folks that have been getting screwed by cable companies for many years, might say well I’m just glad it didn’t go up, lol. I actually thank my old ex-cable company every day, for making me learn a new and BETTER way.

Doesn’t matter to me, I like to help people if I can, I’ll help a lazy person or someone who runs a marathon every week.
I agree somewhat, but when the person running that marathon, bypasses all watering stations, then stops and demands to know where the watering stations are, it gets a tad frustrating.
