When I open Cinema with IPVanish connected and chose a program to watch……when I get to choosing a feed there will be a pause and IPVanish will disconnect. I’ve made sure all is updated, Wi-Fi signal is strong and connected, done fresh install of apps and reset my firestick to factory default then re-jail broke it……and the problem continues. Any help to resolve?
Tell us a little more. Has this happened in any other app, or just Cinema? Are you using Real Debrid (or equivalent), or are these free sources? Is it on every/any movie or show, or just certain ones?
Welcome to Troypoint Insider. As @AMD237 suggested, a tad more info and we can do some research or make some suggestions or at least have a direction to investigate.
Is happening on multiple fires sticks in the home. Also happens with Film+. Am. It using Real Debrid (or equivalent). Is happening with tv shows and movies….not any one in particular.
This is a more recent issue….within the past week or two.
What else might I be able to tell you?
……am not using Real Debrid
Hello @Dmiller1 I would suggest trying to reboot your router. Also in settings of VPN app try using a different VPN protocol.
Actually, on one of my fire sticks I turn on IPVanish….it shows connected, I press the “home” button on my remote….and by the time I get back to the Home Screen the vpn has disconnected……
Speed tests indicate I’m getting 91.5M Mbps download speed and 11.8 Mbps upload speed.
Like Troy mentioned, have you tried OpenVPN protocol instead of Wireguard? Open is sometimes slower, but usually more stable. Just as a troubleshooting step…
I did try changing the protocol….no success.
Have also tried rebooting both internet router and wireless router….
You may have to get in touch with IPV support.
Why does the VPN suddenly disconnect? – IPVanish
My VPN connection is randomly disconnecting. What can I do? - IVPN Help
Thank you for the articles……I had seen those, thus why I know to try changing protocols……
My fault, thought they might help. Do you only have Firesticks? It only happens on those?
Oh no….feedback is much appreciated. This is on fire sticks (plural)……I just found the phone support # for IPVanish……sounds like I’m going to spend some time trying to reach a live human….
There are quite a few things that can cause VPN connection problems.
-
Network issues. You already confirmed good wifi speeds. How is your latency? If you get a spike in latency, sometimes as much as pinging >120, some vpns will drop the vpn tunnel. Use analiti and check both speeds and latency.
-
Server capacity. Try using different server locations on IPV. Server load ceilings can drop connections.
-
Device Energy Saving modes. Can’t remember if fire sticks had an energy reduction mode that deprioritizes apps. Make sure IPV isn’t on they list if the device has one.
-
Software/Firmware update conflicts. Have you noticed if IPV recently updated. Has the firesticks updated recently? If all was working a couple weeks ago and suddenly, they don’t, it obviously indicate a recent change in one of the operating components. Check for recent version and firmware updates. If so - try rolling back to a prior version of IPV.
-
Try another VPN to see if similar persists. Proton has a free VPN version you can temporarily use to test. Windscribe also has a free version.
-
Router and modem reboot always a good idea, even when there isn’t a clear cause to have to do so. On my Asus router, I set it to auto-reboot once every week.
-
Check recent changes in your ISP’s policy on VPN use. Some providers and countries aren’t very VPN friendly and will actively block VPN ips.
-
If you have access to, or know someone with similar streaming “hobbies”, see if they have similar issues whether on an Amazon device or other. If you’re close to them, being your stick over, as it is and see if it behaves the same on a different connection and maybe even a different ISP. Though asking this community is like asking if others are seeing similar problems.
Troubleshooting can be a pain - like tracing an electrical short. Patience is key. Good luck.
I’ve been having the same issue with Cinema. Ipv works well with Kodi, but in cinema it disconnects. I’ve tried different protocols but it still drops out. I’ve even deleted Cinema and reinstall and get the same. Frustrating.
I just tested version 2.4.0 with IPV version 4.0.8.0.167159-gtv and did not have such issues after 20 mins of viewing.
It sadly reminded me how much I dislike using the apk, especially ad-supported.
Anyway - IPV stayed on, connected to Chicago server.
Device tested on was a 2019 Shield Pro.
Downstream speed avg = 180 mbps. Latency = 70 ms.
Just for giggles, since I was testing connection anyway, I switched over from IPV to Shark, also using their Chicago server.
Downstream = 311 mbps. Latency = 68 ms.
Shark didn’t pose a problem either.
So it would appear that Cinema v2.5.2 does not play well with IPVanish….
btw……I did reach out to IPV support……they tried to tell me it was my firestick……pretty much no help on this matter.
Good - I’m glad to see that rolling back versions helped.
Post 2.5.2 update revealed a handful of issues with different users. Not sure if there’s value to the update as I haven’t compared if the scrapers are any more effective than that of 2.4.0.
I guess since I don’t use it, I just never vested any time to comparing any asset value with the new update.
