Cheap travelling alternative to Shield Pro

Hey gang,

I’m going to be travelling in October and I was wondering if there is a cheap alternative to my Shield Pro that I can take with me to hookup in my hotel room. I just want something that is around 100 Canadian or less, light weight, allows me to setup with the apps and add ons I need etc. When I come back, I’ll hook it up to my office TV.

My Shield Pro is setup with so many USB devices that I don’t really want to touch it and I definitely don’t want to risk losing my current config that has taken me so long to setup. So I thought a cheaper travelling device would work.

Any thoughts?

Any cheap box would work, onn, mecool etc. If its just you watching an 11 inch tablet is hard to beat.

Onn TV box from Walmart

Or just take a Firestick to get you through

Walmart Canada doesn’t sell the ONN box. I found it on Amazon Canada for $63 which is a helluva markup from $19 US on Walmart US.

Anyone know of a reasonably priced Canadian retailer for this box?

Tivo Stream 4k is a nice compact little unit that would be reasonable to travel with.

Comments I’m reading is that the Tivo Stream 4k is difficult to setup in Canada because it needs a sub to Sling TV which is not available in Canada.

You would think we were a third world country. ONN not available at Walmart Canada, Tivo can’t be setup here.

stock android has no restrictions.

Dang, sorry about that…didn’t think that would be the case. Firestick or stock android box may be your best options.

I wonder what the shipping charge is to mail an Onn box to Canada from the states… just curious

Just googled shipping to canada and average price would be around $ 17 to $23. Hope this helps!

Can you get Mecool KM2 or Strong leap 1 boxes in Canada they are excellent boxes like mini Shields.

I have a firebox I always take with me when I travel and it has worked good. If the WiFi is not good I mirror to it from my phone.

I am currently on the island of Bonaire in the south Caribbean…I always travel with my Walmart ONN and use ExpressVPN…I’ve taken my ONN to Europe and Mexico (as well as Caribbean)…I have the MeCool and the Tivo but I found the ONN to be much better, snappy, good memory…I usually watch my IPTV so I can get U.S. news (as much as I hate to hear it). I have programmed 8-10 ONNs for friends–super easy…just following Troy’s procedures…I don’t even consider ever going back to Firestick…POS compared to ONN

Thanks for all the replies. I’m going to be in the US in October so I will make a visit to Wally World to pick up an ONN. I need a secondary device for my other TV at home anyway and the price is certainly right.

I love all the helpful knowledge and experience of all you folks in this group.

Haven’t tried the Wally world onn app but I use the fire stick 4K Maxx and traveling I always had good luck with it.
I like the OTG cable with a scan disk memory stick I can download movies record them on the stick and watch them on the go!

Back in July Reship charged me $39.79 USD which turned out to be $53.39 CDN.
