I am new to the insider so I hope I am following the proper rules correctly. I searched the website and did not see anything on this topic. A few years ago I purchased a Streamsmart Android Box. I can currently load my own Kodi builds on to the Firestick and other devices, thanks to the Troypoint tutorials. Here is my question: Does anyone know if there is a way to reprogram the Streamsmart Android Box so that I can load a build other than the stock version that came with the unit? The box works fine except that the builds and addons are all obsolete now so it does not work.

Well the first thing you have to do is checking for device system update, then reset to factory settings. You can do those from the settings menu.
Note: you will lose everything in this device after above changes. Considering the above changes first this will allow you to fresh install.
You can always updates the device firmware, but those are difficult and more technical steps than the above settings because it’s required more technical knowledge.
If you decide to change the build in consider TP manual. TP wrote an manual about the latest builds you can use.

In my opinion, old tech is just that, old. Often they are nowhere near as good as the latest tech due to advancements in the electronics as well as coding. In my opinion a device will begin to lose the ability to do some advanced functions that newer apps and tools may require and so you can spend a lot of time searching archives for “older” APPs that are compatible with your device. Depending on how well the manufacturer has done releasing updates, I find that most stuff isn’t worth it once it gets around the 4 to 5 year mark. New WiFi protocols, security and OS updates, as well as faster CPUs and GPUs, not to mention storage requirements, are all things that need looking at. Newer tech, that is often less expensive than your original equipment, may be your best choice. But if this is simply about learning, then the challenges repurposing old tech brings, can be fun but also frustrating.
Have fun and STREAM ON.
Dang Mik…you must’ve put down some strong coffee this morning…you’re killin’ it!
Thanks for the feedback. I just needed confirmation. For example, I have reset the box to factory settings. The OS does not update to remove old (nonfunctioning addons). It would be easier for me to just update to a more current build. However, to your point, it will require system reprogramming to replace the OS. I suspected this to be the case but was hoping there might be an easier solution. Since this is beyond my technical ability, and since the unit is a couple years old, I will just junk it and keep the power transformers. Thanks to TP (and sites like this) we do not even need boxes to ran Kodi from our computers, phones or tablets. Kindest regards, Dan
Smart move…I have a box full of em with a multitude of different connection plug shapes, sizes & ratings & they do come in handy.
Yes of course you can always try one of TP builds.
