To put this into context, the 2019 NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro has an Antutu Benchmark of approximately 254,000. This has 677,763. Is this overkill for a streaming box?
@Miki also received one of these and I’m sure that he will chime in below on his thoughts regarding this device.
What’s the max price you would pay for souped up streaming devices like this? Tell us in the comments below.
I have been holding back and waiting for Troy to put this vid out. This is by far the fastest, smoothest and robust streaming device I’ve ever owned. Easy setup and tons of room. I added external storage via the 3.0 USB port.
This is a 64 bit OS but I haven’t found one 32 bit app that hasn’t worked and worked flawlessly. The BuzzPowerstation Unlimited is an Android TV box I didn’t use the onboard iptv stuff but added TiVimate. Haven’t found any specific 64Bit apps I might need, but from my reading they are supposedly more secure. I used TiVimate because I am very comfortable with it. I should add a sub to the internal iptv and see how it works. Maybe in the future. Yes this is overkill for a streamer and has 256GBs internal and 32 GBs RAM.
Yes the price is crazy hi but then if I count up all the money I’ve spent on devices then this is a drop in the bucket. I have used this for a week now and done a little extra tweaking since I first fired it up. I will say this is AndroidTV 13 and the System Picker is fully functional. I had no problem setting up recording to either internal or external and recorded an entire week of the Wife’s favourite soap. No missed recordings, and all played perfectly. There are a bunch of startup vids and a full remote key map. As usual enable the Dev options. My only small problem is, it is lacking in settings. Nowhere near the options compared to the SK1. Going to try my internal LAN server next.
This is absolutely my favourite device now. Hopefully it will last me for years to come.
Thanks so much for the information and reviews. I am really surprised about the system picker as I have never found this on the later android systems. Please do some streaming on the normal apps and see if there are any videos that don’t play properly with these boxes (missing codecs). Also, any further information is welcome.
I am sure there are some that don’t want to spend this much for a box, but I am totally dedicated to this hobby and my recording, and if this box works well, I am not opposed to the price.
I didn’t find any isssues with any media. From music to movies to series everything played without any hiccup. Now I can’t test Dolby Digital as I have Samsung and they don’t do DD vids, but it does play Dolby Atmos amazing. The P6 also has it’s own sound suite setup that I chose and love.
I understand lots of you guys love these high end boxes. No problem there. I’m just happy with what I get from my $50 ONN 4K PRO and don’t need or want anything beyond that. And my Bank Account is happy as well! Looks like a killer box though!
This box is ridiculous in a good way. I can definitely see Kodi taking advantage of the power and 64bit OS especially with a heavy build. I have also seen videos of people getting a PLEX server running on one. Stremio also has a 64 bit APK but I don’t know if it offers any advantages.
It is definitely overkill for basic streaming but perfect for anyone that likes to tinker, game or play with emulators. Should also last forever with all of that storage, RAM and excess power.
I have to say, video made me very interested in such a powerful box. I too am locked and loaded with the Onn 4k Pro’s, very hard to beat. But for me personally, I am ready to upgrade to this Box ! The features I saw are exactly where I have needed upgrades. The price… That’s a little bit high in my opinion. Would be very nice to see this box in the $299-$349 price range… But Awesome video as Always, and Awesome Product. I’m a fan of it by far.
Whoa…BuzzTV continues to outdo themselves. Always trusting Troy‘s reviews verifies this.
I still have my X5128 AI functioning very well along with my other team members lol…
This box will be overkill for me, being in rural area is much better now with Starlink, but I will never get those gigabyte speeds ( never say never )
Looking forward to the detailed review. Thanks Troy, as always, looking out for us.
I love my Shield devices. There is no such thing as too much power. I will be replacing my Shield devices with these. I have had my Shields for at least 7 years. They have more than paid me back. These will pay themselves off as well. I have spent a lot of time trying to build a windows based streaming device with a bit of success. But this is the the better path. Great review!
When this first came out I kind of dismissed it out of hand as too expensive, but this post led me to do some research, and it definitely has a ton of promise for anyone that loves to tinker. Besides being one of the few boxes with 64-bit Android they are working on Windows and Linux too.
@Miki Can you confirm that this is AndroidTV and not just Android? I am curious what the Play Store sees it as and if you download something from there, which version of the app will get installed, TV or phone.
Well, I wouldn’t be opposed to paying $500 for a box that is flawless, with no buffering and can play everything from sports to movies and TV shows. Right now my Nvidia Shield TV Pro does that pretty well so don’t think I’ll change just yet. Might be a different story in another year or two.
I guess for those who absolutely have to have the Lamborghini of android streaming boxes, this would be the one. Four things would deter me from getting one at this time, 1) price, 2) overkill on specs and memory, 3) absence and mainstreaming of 4K and yes, even 8K streaming sources and 64 bit apps. 4) Most people can’t detect any difference in picture quality between 4K and 8K, even on larger screen sizes. This is a beast of a box but without streaming sources with ultra high definition to take advantage of the 64 bit capability, can’t get super excited about it. I’ll stick with my two SK1s for now.
