I’ll be waiting on your full review. The striped down no frills approach looks like it would be perfect for my inlaws. Less setting to “somehow” get changed.
If Buzz made this with a remote administration dash like iMPlayer they would sell a ton of them to people with older parents or that are the family “tech support”.
Agree…there is no doubt that there is a market here. Maybe one more app…Kodi.
Quickly went through the video. I don’t know much about Linux but my question is why would someone buy a box that doesn’t support connections to any app stores or any apps? Someone who only uses IPTV and no apps?
If I was advising a technophobe - my choice would be Formuler Z11 pro BT edition - if not on a budget Z11 pro max BT.
Having set these up for friends / family, this has MYTVOnline 3 - in my view, the best IPTV app.
They really love the Fav / History rows on the home page / remote control options setup for them.
I started playing with Linux on a laptop as I didn’t like Windows Vista and now have a dual boot laptop Windows 10 / Linux mint.
I only use windows if I need to update a device software
eg ANCEL VD700 OBD2 Scanner - free software updates but only via a windows computer
Don’t forget though. This is not a stock Linux app. This is a heavily modified Linux Debian, so no idea what you can or can’t do with it. Does it even have a linux console for adding or using, commands? I’m looking forward to Troy’s full review and especially the part of adding a VPN, Open or otherwise.
Thanks for the video, i had no idea about this buzz box.
It is certainly aimed at a very niche market, but $90 for an only iptv box with minimal ram and storage, plus no bt remote seems way overpriced to me.
Bingo…I recently swapped out a google chromecast with an onn 4k pro in our br. That is the wife’s main tv. I set projectivy up on it and she manages it with ease now.
Formuler did a great job with their launcher!
I reached out to their head guy with questions about this box and no, there is no way to do anything else with console, etc. unfortunately.
That’s what I figured. Tx Troy. Now to plug it in and see about their VPN setup.
Guess the usb port on the back is useless for the end user

With the limited RAM and internal memory, I can understand why there are no app options. Definitely not for me but the simplicity of operation may make this a viable option for older people who just want to turn it on and watch tv or a movie.
If simplicity and IPTV only is the goal, you can buy a $50 ONN Box for half the price, set it to Apps only Mode - No launcher needed. $90 for a Linux box that does not support apps? I see no market for this
Ive been a linux user for a very long time and one thing that has bothered me is there is not one good solid iptv player. Ive always wanted to take a mini pc/linux and make a streaming powerhouse…32/64 gb ram/4 barrel carb, dual exhaust… Quite simply put android cant be beat for streaming(at least with whats out there today). Linux does make the best server and thats how my iptv works.
I can tell you have never met my mother-in-law. She could take apps only mode and delete half the apps, enable developer mode and change every option and install 15 varieties of malware all while saying “I don’t know what’s wrong, all I did was turn it on!” ![]()
This wouldn’t be for the everyday user/ Shield crowd. From my experience with others there is a market for a really locked down simple box. You wouldn’t be paying for specs; you’d be paying for peace and quiet and peace of mind. Trying to tech support some people over the phone is worse than having to drive across town to fix it yourself.
fyi. Stremio and kodi work very well on linux…just not sure about this box
The trouble is, there is no way to add 3rd party apps. Nowhere to add Linux commands.
What Buzz really needs to do is make a family and this one could be totally locked down so that you can’t break it with a hammer.
Then think of a more open full Linux distro type based on something like the Buzz Powerstation. That would be a beast and could run a PLEX server etc. They would just need to keep the price reasonable. They could also have a “mid” version for Kodi etc.
Maybe there will be a whole family based on Linux hence the “1” in L1.
