Hopefully it can be connected to an A/Vreceiver. Only reason I haven’t gotten a powerstation is because I read that it must be connected directly to a tv. That’s a deal breaker for me.
P6 works great with my receiver. When I questioned them about this they said to first connect directly to TV for setup and once setup it should work fine with AV receiver. That’s what I did and it works on mine.
Troy, I setup my P6 connected to TV and then moved to AV receiver cabinet. Everything worked fine EXCEPT P6 would not power on the receiver (and then TV) using HDMI-CEC from Sleep Mode. P6 does not have a Shutdown power mode and evidently Sleep/Suspend does not force HDMI to go into a lower disconnect state so that ALL external devices can detect a true “no signal” when it is in sleep mode.
If I unplugged/plugged the P6, the receiver would detect the startup and power on as well as the TV. I have a high-end Yamaha AV receiver, but admittedly 8 years old. Buzz Tech Support was great in helping troubleshoot (cable, all device settings, change ports, updates, etc.) and confirmed that the HDMI connection was HDMI 2.2. When connected directly to my new LG OLED TV, P6 would power on the TV when started from Suspend Mode. So, the new TV HDMI-CEC played nicely with the P6.
So, while recent AV Receivers should work fine with P6 after a direct connect setup, there may be some HDMI-CEC compatibility issues with older receivers. I had to return the P6 to Buzz because needing multiple remotes for my wife and I to manually power on different devices and then change HDMI ports back to the P6 was a long-term no-go. Buzz return went smoothly.
I was really sorry to return it as it was a great performing device except for this maybe unique to me CEC quirk. I don’t know whether G-Series will behave the same as P6 since it has different CPU.
Troy when you do the in depth review, please mention the direct competitors for this device and price point and perhaps compare and contrast them. Moving forward, isn’t AOSP preferred just in case Google blocking gets more serious? Thank you.
As I state in the video I still think the main competitor are the Onn Boxes and the question is, do you need the extra features that this one provides for $100 more? Double storage, Gigabit Ethernet, stronger processor, extra RAM, more ports for expansion on the unit.
I still think most people will say they would rather save the $100. Do we really need 32GB more storage? Do we really need Gigabit Ethernet? Some will definitely want those things but I think most consumers don’t care about all of that. 32GB should be plenty to store apps on the Onn 4K Pro. You may want the extra storage if you are recording IPTV or want to hold copies of movies and TV shows and this G-Series will be great for that.
Regarding AOSP, I think that comes down to personal preference. I’ve said this in multiple posts, I don’t think this Google restriction on side-loaded apps is going to be a huge deal. People need to remember that this restriction is only going to impact apps where the app developers don’t want to become verified by providing ID, etc. Apps such as Stremio, Kodi, and TiviMate are already in Google Play and I don’t see those having any problems in the future. Sure, the crap apps (I like to call them that because I don’t like them) like old Cinema HD, BeeTV, FilmPlus, etc. those will probably have problems because the developers won’t certify. Those “crap apps” will always be a problem because they provide illegal content right out of the gate. The ones that are currently safe require addons or an IPTV sub which keeps them in good graces within the eyes of Google. If people are willing to pay $3 per month for TorBox and another $3 for IPTV they can use Stremio, Kodi, and any choice of IPTV player already in the Google Play app store. But, if you aren’t willing to pay a dime for any type of debrid service or IPTV sub there may be extra hurdles to jump through but as of now that only appears to be a 24-hour waiting period to sideload unverified apps, not a big deal either way.
Also, people are still freaking out about Fire TV blocks but guess what? The apps I just pointed out above…Stremio, Kodi, TiviMate all still work great on Fire TV systems as well. The problems are the “crap apps” on Fire TV as well and those are the only ones currently being blocked.
Sorry for the long post …have a great weekend everyone!!
@TROYPOINT when you think buzz6 app will go live on the G-Series ? I’m tempting to get the Classic AI box since it comes preloaded with Buzz6 already. Thanks bud
