BOXY Android TV 11 Box

Stumbled upon this on amazon, looks nice with great specs…netflix certified and x905Y4 with… Reminds me of the rocktek thats about $50 more. Interesting that it also has the Dune media structure within. Dune is popular with many geeks in the a/v world.

That is a cool looking box Ron. Thanks for sharing. Biggest difference I see to the Rocktek is no Wifi6 support and no gig ethernet port.

Yea I was looking at their website and they have an upgraded version with 4g, gig internet etc for $149

Just had this show up in my Amazon recommendations and it is now $55. Seems like a solid box for that price. Would love to hear any owner feedback.

Have never tried that box myself but with the release of the ONN4k box ive never looked back. The onn has the specs and all the certs and it does the job and I can vouch as I have 2 boxes in use all the time. And for $50 at walmart with an easy return if needed…hands down the best box vs price. If you want the best I would still say arguably the Nvidea Shield is still the best but at a price.

edit… here’s the newer link
The Dune media player is the only unknown here, either you love it or hate it.

I have both the Shied and an ONN and agree with you on both. This caught my eye as something different and I was thinking of picking it up as something to play with. More of a hobby purchase, I think I wait to see if it goes lower.

Agree with comments here regarding the Onn 4K. For $50 I don’t think there is anything better in that price range. I use it on my office PC monitor and for travel as the size and performance are just about perfect.

55US for 2GB memory…no way

The Onn 4K Pro has 3GBs of RAM and 32 GBs of internal memory for $50 at Walmart.

Yes. more RAM would be nice. but it does offer DTS support in the Dune Mediacenter App. That’s something the ONNs and others don’t offer. It all depends on what you are looking for. The biggest downer to me is it seems that the boot loader is locked so no CoreELEC or other alternates.

I have a BOXY Android TV 11 Streaming Media Player. Rufus on Amazon has told me that this media supports accessing and playing DVDs stored on a Windows networked hard drive through its built-in SMB file-server feature.

Well, I can’t find out how to do this, and the device has no obvious user manual.

First: is it possible to use this device to play DVDs stored on a Windows networked hard drive, and, if so, how do I do it, please. Thank you in advance for any help you may offer.

I don’t have a Boxy but do have a Dune. Have you added the windows computer as a source under the Dune HD app? On the Dune there are several choices at the top inside the Dune HD app and under sources you can add network shares. You can also check under “My Collection” After you add the PC as a source you should be able to just browse to the file you want to play or add the files to “My Collection” and have it added to the poster wall.

This is wrong. The built in file server is so that other devices can connect to the Boxy and use any disks or files on the Boxy. It will “serve” up the files. In what you are wanting to do the PC is the server and the Boxy is the client.
