Does anyone have the ip addresses google uses to come into, for me nvidia shield pro, and update apps block apps etc.. A few weeks ago they blocked FreeFlix. The updated version has been working fine but now that I know they come into my device on my network without my specific permission I want to block them in my router/firewall like Troy has shown us how to do with Fire devices. Anyone have a list of ip’s? Or can anyone suggest streaming devices that don’t allow anyone in and can’t block apps.
I don’t understand the question? I’ve never had or known a streaming device that blocks anything? Perhaps some more clarification here
Troy released a video that contained the IP addresses Amazon uses to get into the Fire devices and force updates and block apps so we could enter them in our routers or firewalls and block them. I am having the app blocking problem with my Shield and Google and was wondering if anyone had the IP’s Google uses?
Hello, you shouldn’t have app blocking. Sounds like you need to turn off Play Protect.
nailed it!
How would one block updates. My Onn 4k Pro worked better on 12, I didn’t update it, it was just sent through and done one night. I have Play Protect off, but I don’t think that will help with my issue.
Thanks that’ll do it. I assumed they were doing it the same way Amazon was and while this Google way is equally intrusive it’s nice that it can be disabled and it should have occurred to me that Nvidia asks me if I want to install updates they don’t just do it. Thanks again Troy.
Just a quick FYI when I tried to disable it from the instructions provided my device does not have the Security and Restrictions selection referenced in step 3. Developer options are enabled and the device is on 9.2.1 I did see an option to disable it in the Google Play store but I trust google about as far as I can throw an NFL offensive lineman.
Some systems are different than others. Just disable it wherever you can find it.
not sure where to post this but if i have a 1 onn box and 1 onn pro box that never have been hooked up just bought them when they came out do i need to do anything to those boxes now even if i do not plan on using them in the near future
I couldn’t find any settings on the hardware but I did disable that and automatic app updating in the Google Play store. Thanks again for your help.
just set them up but be patient as you probably have several updates to cycle through if they have been sitting in their boxes for a while
I had Flixvision installed on my ONN 4K Pro and one day I tried to open it up and it wouldn’t. The app icon was showing but failing to open. I went to APPS and found that it was disabled by Google Play Protect. You have to uninstall the app, turn OFF Play Protect and then download it via Downloader and install again. Since you need virus and malware protection, you can download a free version of MalwareBytes Premium from APKTime to monitor your ONN 4K. The less info your ONN sends out to Google, the better. Your ONN will be off their radar. So, here are a few suggestions to ensure you enjoy all the apps without Google making decisions for you. You do not need to turn on developer mode unless it’s for a specific fix needed by an app, like Streamflix or Ocean Streamz. Under Privacy, turn Location Status OFF. Usage and Diagnostics, turn OFF. You will need to check Manage Updates manually by checking See available updates because you turned off sending data to Google, even though Auto-update is turned on. Google Assistant, view permissions - Personal results is OFF. Under Special app access - Modify system settings, Google Play services is set to No. Under Privacy - Security, Scan apps with Play Protect is turned OFF, Improve harmful app detection is turned OFF, Usage & diagnostics is OFF. Under Apps - Manage Updates, Auto-update can be turned ON but you will need to manually check See available updates every once in a while. Under System - About, check System update manually every once in a while as well. Have no problems with any of my installed apps for over a year now.
I have Play Protect turned off permanently. Not sure I see any need for it - I’m my own Play Protect!
I’m trying out NetGaurd: NetGuard provides simple and advanced ways to block access to the internet - no root required. Applications and addresses can individually be allowed or denied access to your Wi-Fi and/or mobile connection. It’s not hard to setup and has a built in VPN, unfortunately you can not use another VPN with it or it will automatically turn off. I have installed it on all of my firesticks and seems to be working well. This appp blocks the ability for Amazon to do updates on your device, you can’t even do Amazon updates while the NetGuard is on…
Downloader code: 730116 or bit.ly/fsh-downloads (there are tutorials on line on setup)
Hopefully this will work for you.
You need to go into Settings/Privacy/ and turn Play protect off if you have the ONN device. At least that’s how I did it after Google wiped my side-loaded apps. Grrrr
