I finally slipped up and accidentally updated X-plore and now it won’t let me use Dropbox or Google Drive. That was my go-to method for occasionally downloading some files on my PC and transferring them to my streaming boxes. Now I’m looking for an easy and reliable alternative. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I’ve got a Shield Pro as my main, as well as a FS and Onn box. I don’t really want to do the USB method as that involves physically moving stuff around, plugging and unplugging, and rebooting devices sometimes. What I think I’d like to do is figure out how NAS works and set that up. That would also allow me to easily backup pictures and videos from my phone and access those on my TV if I’m feeling nostalgic or sharing with friends and family. I can look up how to setup NAS via a Google search, but when it comes to accessing it through a streaming device and transferring files, does anyone have experience? I’d prefer to continue using X-plore since it’s familiar and easy to navigate with a remote. Thanks!
Never heard of FEEM but after looking it up, it sounds cool. Does Android 11 cause issues with read/write access using that though? What I really want to do is look into setting up my own cloud storage that I can access away from home and set my phone up to automatically backup documents to. Nextcloud is supposedly able to do this but I’ll have to research how to set it up and access it from different devices.
Send Anywhere app is great for doing many file transfers. TP has an excellent tutorial on setting up a lan for recordings that can be accessed from any device you have conneted.
Your last sentence said you’d prefer to continue using X-Plore, but you ignored my comment about downloading the previous version you had from apkmirror or apkpure. Is there some reason you didn’t want to try this? Or have you tried it?
It may be a possibility but I’m still looking for something better where I can have direct access rather then downloading on my computer, uploading to Google Drive, then downloading to the device. With a shared network drive I can just download to that and read it from the device. Plus, this may be more of an Android 11 issue than an X-plore issue.
I gotcha. I just thought you were really wanting to keep using X-Plore. On my computer I have a program I use called WinSCP. I can connect directly to my Shield or other boxes with it and can drag and drop files back and forth or send or delete or whatever your preference may be. It’s a free program and it’s worked very well for me for several years.
I’ll definitely look into that! Does the program have to be installed on the shield or does it connect and show all the folders once you enter the IP address? Does it work with fire sticks and Onn boxes too?
You only install the WinSCP on your computer. I used ES File Explorer on my Shield to start since I already had it. All you have to do is turn on the Remote Manager (it’s under the Network category) on ES File Explorer and it will show you the ip address and port of your box to connect to. Go over to WinSCP and type it in and make your ftp connection with anonymous login. It’s even much easier than it sounds. Once you’re connected, yes it does show all the folders. Mine does anyway. https://winscp.net/eng/index.php
I’m looking at the X-Plore app on my Shield now and looks like all you would need to do with it is turn on the FTP server. Then click over on the right side for the ip and port info. Then open up WinSCP and connect. https://www.lonelycatgames.com/docs/xplore/ftp-server
I use the Send Anywhere app to transfer all sorts of files, i.e., apps, apks, pictures, m3us and epgs, wallpapers/screensavers, etc… A folder is automatically set up in my X-plore app. All I do is save the file on my laptop and then send the saved file to whatever device I have Send Anywhere linked to.
Yes, you can access all folder for sending. However, once the file is sent. It will be stored in your file explorer. From there you can do whatever you want.
