Best streaming boxes with wifi 6 that actually work!

True, ethernet is a different method of streaming using an ethernet cable. Many things determine the speed of ethernet as well. If what you’re paying for is 250 mbps through your ISP then you’ll never get a 1 gig signal or anything more than 250 via wifi. However if you are paying for 1 gig or more then your streaming device would have to indicate that the lan card is 10/100/1000 capable to take advantage of that speed. My mecool device indicates that it’s 10/100/1000 lan capable and that works fine and 8011.ax (wifi 6) so I believe it should take advantage of faster wifi signal such as 1 gig. If anyone knows otherwise and not just guessing then please enlighten me.

Okay we are going on a circle here. Your LAN Card has nothing to do with your Wifi speed it controls what speed you can max out IF using Ethernet - not Wifi. I pay for 300MB Internet from AT&T Fiber. If I were to use that connected to Ethernet say on my 4K ONN Pro I would max out at 100MB because that is all the LAN Card can handle on this Box. BUT I don’t use Ethernet I use WiFi and I’m getting about 380MB

Wifi 6 and IPv6 are two different things, though. Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong, but wifi 6 (802.11ax) capabilities are based on your router (and corresponding device) and not your ISP supporting it. Unfortunately for the Shield, they have never used an official wifi 6 designated wireless module in any of their streaming devices (only 802.11ac). That’s why both of my Shields are hardwired lol.

Ok now I need to do more learning. I thought IPv6 is the protocol required to obtain an IPv6 address and thus WiFi 6. Lol. Man the stuff gets more confusing. I stand corrected. IPv6 is for ethernet and the addresses. Learned something new today. Tx. So my Shield Pro does only have 2.4 GHz or 5GHz WiFi. And here I’ve been bugging my ISP for WiFi 6 and I can’t even use it. Sheeesh.

Here is a quick article about trying to decipher all these new terms. I’m sure there are others, but agree they totally get confusing and we add new terminology all the time.

Please read the original post before you reply…

when I upgraded my service to 1gig and
my router to a wifi 6 I was not getting higher speeds. The network cable from the wall to my router was cat 5. I changed it to a cat6 and my speeds jumped up.

Possible network congestion an that wifi channel. You might try other channels or the 160 range if your router supports it.

Use TP link Powerline to bring ethernet where ever you have an electrical outlet.
