Been viewing another thread dealing with video quality and box certification although I think many do not understand the limitations especially when they make a purchase. My question to the forum is What in your opinion is the best overall TV box for cord cutters? I believe that there are some that do not understand the limitations from certified and not. I’ve seen Troypoint videos and others mention this difference but it appears that point needs to be understood,
I myself purchased a ugoos box but I knew it was limited in certs etc but was not my concern as I have options to view most anything I want if needed. I just feel it must be clear before shelling out cash on a box what you get.
So for those looking to buy let this forum thread hopefully be your guide in choosing wisely.
We have some great people in here with knowledge that can be helpful in the future.
I have 2 Nvidia Sheilds and Tried many others , wasted money to see if they compare. I will stick with Nvidia , Awesome but a little more cash than others but well worth the money. Hands down the best !!
Such a wildy talked about topic. Comes down to a few things.
Budget
Android/firetv/google tv (these will all be certified)
Generic box.
Widly talked about topic. There wont be a best overall, probably just a best in each category above and as more come out when chips and cpus are more available that will always change.
Your top dog will be a 4k producing computer hooked up as a media center as it has top ram, storage and all hd capabilities with prime/netflix/Disney. And any highend certified box like the pro, just wait till a new updated nvidia comes out.
Yea I know … I’m happy with my ugoos but I know others who are not mainly because they were looking for it to be all-inclusive… not gona happen with a stock android. If I want prime etc I just hit the back button to my roku tv and hello Not a gamer because my eyes cant take it anymore so the shield is overkill for me.
I have had 2 T95Z-Plus Boxes for years. I guess these fall into the “Generic” category. I can get any content (shows/movies) in 4K/1080p using KODI and Sports/local channels from a paid IPTV service. I don’t need to have a service like Netflix, Hulu etc since I get anything that service offers through KODI. I have never felt the need to have a certified Box or a Shield.
Dracoo is correct, IMO.
A computer set up as a HTPC would be best, if you have one with a newer processor and video card.
Problem now is that video cards that render 4k and better video with smooth motion are crazy expensive right now.
