I’ve been using a Firestick for a few years. I use both Kodi as well asa paid IPTV using Smarters. I travel full time so it’s not possible to have a powerful, bulky setup.
The issue I have is like many others, buffering. Now that I appear to be in one place for a few months, it’s time to redo my setup from the ground up.
I have a friend from the USA visiting and he’s able to bring me some gear. The question I have is what is the best way to go? Shield, Onn, Roku or stick with the Firestick?
I agree with @TXRon the Onn Pro is great. However I believe there are Geographic Restrictions. It only works in USA and PR. You would need a vpn in order to get around it. Check on here as others have had to get around the restriction. Not sure how easy it is. If its simple, its definitely the device to get for basic streaming.
Nvidia is great but 3 to 4 times the price. But should work in many countries if not all. Not aware of Geographic Restrictions except for possibly Google tv.
Roku won’t let you use kodi or iptv that I know of.
I personally don’t recommend any Amazon streaming devices because they are getting more restricted. But others here still use them and can tell you there personal experiences.
ONN,…and a travel router ( if you need one…hotel stays etc…captive portals)
ONN very sufficient for IPTV sub or KODI. 1 hdmi cord 1 ac plug 1 small box and a remote that can take a bashing.
I use the Onn 4k for travel. And I also pack a OTG cable and a jump drive with a few TV shows and movies that I want to catch up on. A lot of hotels don’t have sufficient bandwidth to reliably stream.
Kodi automatically detects the extra drive. You can access the content by either clicking the TV Shows or Movies categories in the left margin.
More and more hotels are transitioning over to easier access to input changes. Though, for those that don’t, you normally have to bypass the control hub that they have attached to the back of the TV and connect directly to the TV inputs.
If the remote doesn’t have an input select and the TV doesn’t have a physical button (most hospitality TV models don’t), then you’d need potentially a universal remote or IR blaster that could give you input selection and volume control.
I third fourth fifth and sixth agree with everybody. Onn All day long. Just as well, hotels are allowing access to HDMI ports, I travel to multiple places and I never leave home without my inbox. Get a VPN and you’ll be good to go. There’s no other way but the Onn.
I’m on the same boat everybody else the onn devices the best choice for the money, I personally use a Chromecast 4K when I’m on the road. But I do own five Onn 4K devices that I use in my home. Also I want to throw this out there I’ve noticed in some Hilton’s they block fire sticks from accessing the free Wi-Fi. My simple work around is connecting my phone to the Wi-Fi and then turning on my phone’s hotspot and using their Wi-Fi and rebroadcasting the signal to my Chromecast.
Well, if buffering is your issue, replacing the Firestick with any other device won’t change that. Just make sure you don’t have too many app taking up the storage (a 16gb 4K Max avoids this) - Kodi seems to be a storage hog for some reason - Cinema and Flixvision appear to be working well at present…
Just a heads up that the ONN 4K Pro region is restricted to the US & PR because it is now available in Europe, under licence and called the Thomson streaming box 270. Not on sale in UK but amazon germany will deliver to UK. I managed to get one on sale for £78 and agree with all you guys that it is a great device
with Nord VPN and my first Gen Walmart ONN box I have hooked up in Cozumel MX, Punta Cana DR. Puerta Vallarta MX., Belize, Roatan Honduras, Grand Cayman with no problems. Did have a tv issue at AB&B in Playa del Carmen mx but was old tv no HDMI.
