You need to turn off automatic updates in Google Play.

I was looking at original post where he mentioned an Android Box. If you install Kodi through Microsoft Store, it looks like they have something similar regarding app updates.

Regarding Firestick, Kodi will not update automatically as it isn’t even available in Amazon App Store. You need to do it manually.

I was enjoying the Superman build on Kodi 20.1 and discovered that Kodi updated to 21.1 and the prior Superman build was not there any longer. I reloaded the older version 20.1 and the Superman build and found that the next time I opened Kodi, it updated again to V 21.1 and wiped out the Superman build again. How do I eliminate the auto update of Kodi with the resulting affect on the Superman build? I also tried to use the newer version of Kodi and Install what I thought was the comparable Superman version for the new Kodi 21.1 but that did not work like the prior version How do I keep Kodi from automatically updating and wiping out the Prior build?
What Superman Build works with the newer Kodi V21.1?
