Is there a way to set fire tv surfshark to auto update? Or are we required to uninstall and reinstall with every update.
I thought I’d respond to share my experience, as this just happened today when Surfshark displayed a red box at the top right on the screen saying I was using an old version and needed to update. I use the Onn Pro but since they’re both Android maybe this will work for you too.
Using my scroll buttons, I arrowed down and the over to highlight the Connect/Disconnect button on the main Surfshark screen. Then I arrowed UP and was able to highlight the “Update Now” in the message. I selected that and it took me to another screen with a giant Update button and a log of the updates. I arrowed down once on this screen and was able to engage the update. The red button on the original update message changed from “update” to “downloading.” Eventually I had to confirm again that I wanted to proceed with the update and then the update soon completed. To be safe I went into my app settings and cleared the cache for Surfshark. When I reopened Surfshark that update message was gone.
Unfortunately, I have android Google TV and using ONN . I tried to follow the instructions that @Zebra3 posted, but due to his being fire tv and mine being android, I just can’t get my surfshark to update.
Any help would be appreciated
I don’t use the fire tv or the fire stick. I use the Onn 4k Pro. Since they’re both Onn devices I figured what worked for me should also work for you.
It should auto update if it doesn’t just go to the website manually update it. It shouldn’t be the program that does it should be the app itself.
I am able to find the UPDATE NOW in red on the Surfshark app but it takes me to a page where it’s highlighted in blue: UPDATE but nothing happens
Hi @AJS1 I’m using onn (not the newest version yet)
I just cannot find how or where to update my surfshark from 3.8 to 3.81
I went to surfshark’s main url page and can’t figure out where to download the update. Sorry for being so dumb:woman_facepalming:t2:
On the onn box, if you go into settings Go to apps See all apps. Show system apps, Google Play Store. Click on your icon on the right hand side, manage apps and games and check for updates. If you downloaded it from Google Play Store, it should update it.
I like using Troy’s toolbox to update surfshark but you must turn off the VPN. Otherwise you may get a error on your connection.
When you open Surfshark on your Onn as if you’re going to see if you’re VPN is still connected, do you see an alert message on that page? My alert said I was using an old version of Surfshark and I needed to “Update Now.” I was able to scroll to the alert message with my remote and the “Update Now” was highlighted, so I clicked on it (selected it). When I did that, it updated.
I get the update notice on my shield Pro but I do not get the notice on my 4K Maxx fire stick. I thought it was a Google Play updating it however is disabled.
Going to try Troy’s toolbox @AJS1
I’ve checked Google playstore and shows no update.
Tried my settings on my onn 4k checking for any updates and says none.
I still cannot get the update from opening the surfshark app and clicking on update.
Hope the toolbox will work. Thanks
You were right!!! THANKS @AJS1
Used Troy’s Toolbox and updated perfectly.
Now Version 3.8.1 on my onn 4k.
Much appreciated
Hit the solved button, thanks.
