During last three weeks or so , 3 rd party apps would stop working, notice that amazon app continued to work. It would work one day, then not work next day, they have been going on and off for last three weeks. Seems like the internet gets disconnected, but works on amazon app, using Fire stick 4k max hard wired ethernet, internet speed 300 mbps. Oddly it started after installing kodi 20.
No they are not. Are you using a vpn?
Yes using vpn, I disconnected the Ethernet adaptor running it on Wi-Fi seems ok, I believe the ethernet adaptor may have been bad, causing the internet to drop. Thanks ok after three days working on Wi-Fi it stopped. It’s doing same thing it will bring up streams but will not play, I then checked three amazon apps tubi, gem, YouTube all three worked but not third party app, it seems to work during day but will cut in and out during evenings. It will work for about three days then stop for couple days then work for couple days. My stick is receiving updates, my Nvidia shield works no problem, I replaced the stick with an old android box and it works fine. It seems amazon is in process of blocking third party apps or my stick has a fault in it but why does third party app not play while amazon app does hhhhmmmmm
Where are you located and which apps do you think are being blocked? I’m in the US and don’t have any issues with the most common apps (Cinema, BeeTV, Stremio, VivaTV, LivenetTV, etc, etc).
I am in Canada on the east coast, I am using kod 20, I have fire stick 4k max that I just loaded in December, this just started to happen when I updated to kod 20 when it first came out. The stocked worked for last three days then stopped. All add-ons will load but when I try to play a stream it won’t play, real debris is valid, also will not play free stream, it’s like there is no internet connection, but when I play amazon app it works there is internet, amazon apps I tried are gem, tub I and YouTube. The stick worked for three days then will be blocked for a day or so. I put an older android box on and switched over to it and it works, it also has kod 20, I also have Nvidia shield with kod 20 and it has no problem. I have checked the stick during the day and it always work this only happens during the evening and it’s on and off, will be blocked for a day or 2 then will work for a few days. What leads me to believe it is blocked, main thing amazon apps still work and the other 2 boxes there is no problem. I will load cinema onto the stick and see if it is blocked too, I have it on the other 2 boxes but not on the stick. I am at a lost as to why this is happening, it sure seems amazon is working on third party apps
OK, so it sounds like the issue is with Kodi 20. I’m still on 19.3/4 so cant offer any insight on 20. Post back if Cinema or BeeTV is having the same problem. Having said that, I’m not aware that Amazon is blocking any third party apps other than those which interrupt its own OS (mostly loaders). How much free memory do you have on the stick?
Amazon isnt blocking any 3rd party apps. Uninstall kodi, reinstall it and use the crew or seren with Read Debrid. its all you need. I would install 19/4 or 3 as well. 20 is a big update so its probably using more resources.
I have about 500 memory, I checked with about three others who have fire sticks and they have no problem but they all still have kod 19.5 so it is not amazon blocking may be a fault in the stick anyway I took it off and replaced it with another stick and put kod 19.5 back on , everything is ok. I am not going to upgrade to kod 20 . Too many add-ons are very slow loading on it. Will wait till all the bugs are worked out
500 Mbs of memory isn’t enough for it to run properly, especially if any app you are streaming with has a buffer over that. I keep my Max with around 2.8Gbs free.
Are you talking memory of hard drive space, the stick has 2 gigs of memory and uses 1.5 gigs while running. The hard drive has 8 gigs I have 5 gigs used up and 3 gigs free space.
Your figures are correct, not sure on your teminology. If you have 2GB free of ROM and your RAM usage still has say 700-1000 free then you should be g2g. You indicated you only had 500mbs and that’s not enough to load another full instance of Kodi. I have a Max with a 16GB usb drive for apps to help keep the Max as free as possible for space. I use to use kodi but not full blown builds, just one of Troy’s kodi forks with about 3 addons.
Any way I replaced it with another stick and put kod 19.5 and loaded even more apps on it and all ok, on this stick it says availab!e memory 765 mbps internal storage free space 2382 in which isn’t much different than the other stick. It seems to work better with version 19.5. The other stick worked fine till I upgraded to kod 20. I am going to stay on kod 19.5 thanks for the help. Always nice to be able to get help from other users
No problem at all. I have read where some have issues with Kodi 20. I don’t use Kodi at all. Sounds like your Max is about the same as mine for RAM and ROM. Have fun and STREAM ON!!
i agree with miki not enough free menory
Kodi is fun but kind of a memory hog. I went away from it to using Tivimate and apps only. Would be fun to do a poll on how many use apps alone vs Kodi.
Mystery solved, with your help, I checked memory use in kodi 19.5 on stick and it was running 1.1 gigs. I then checked memory use on my Nvidia shield running kodi 20 and found it running at 2.2 gigs.Nvidia shield has total 3 gigs memory which explained why it had no problem running it, however the fire stick only has 2 gigs of memory. So with kodi 20 trying to run at 2.2 couldn’t do it. Don’t know if this will be same for everyone that uses fire stick but worth warning those with fire stick not to upgrade to kodi 20 at least not for now. Again thanks for sending me in right direction to solve this.
That is excellent detective work. Great info . tx.
