I have an Insignia firetv that only has 4gb of internal storage, making the TV kind of useless. I installed a USB and formatted it as internal storage. But almost all apps installed on the USB won’t launch. In fact, only one app installed on the USB will launch, the working app being SmartTubeNext, Troypoint app, Kodi, Cinema, ext will not load if installed on the USB.
The USB is a SanDisk 64gb Ultra Flair 3.0 formatted as internal storage.
I have more than a dozen firestick 4k’s with the same USB and they all work flawlessly.
The only main difference that I can tell is the firesticks all run Fire OS 6.2.x and the firetv runs Fire OS 7.2.x
So at the end of the day, I have to use a firestick on my firetv to run my apps but I purchased the firetv specifically so I wouldn’t need another Firestick.
I have tried multiple USB drives from my firesticks, and I get the same result every time. Every USB that I currently use on my fire sticks are identical.
The fact that he’s single app will work from the USB tells me that it does work to some degree.
I did not mention it in my original post but I have two identical 65 inch insignia fire TV and I get the same results on both of them.
I have been in the firestick game for years and I know my way around them very well but these are my first fire TVs and th,ey currently have me stumped, and I do not like to be stumped
When you put in a USB stick the TV automatically prompts you to format as internal or external storage. There’s no option to create a partition so it is either in entirely internal or external. The fact that I can install apps to it would indicate that it is internal storage.
The television does give you options to transfer apps between internal storage and the USB if the apps support USB.
I have searched high and low and there is virtually no information that I can find regarding different USB sticks on a fire TV. There is tons of information on using a USB with a firestick but not so much a fire TV.
This problem does not indicate a problem with corruption of the USB, it does support a possible incompatibility issue but I can’t just indiscriminately buy different USBS hoping to find one that may work correctly
And shame on Amazon for even putting their OS on a TV that only has half the storage of a fire stick, and as most people in this game already know 8 gigabytes is not enough, 4 gigabytes of internal storage is a joke.
Having to use a fire stick on my fire TVs is both insulting and inexcusable
I honestly believe its a conflict between the tv and the stick. I agree with you on amazon its annoying. But from what i understand with this tv you have to set it as internal for it to even work as storage. (The stick has to be fat32) If it does work after then im to assume it wont. Maybe others know something i dont. But its the most info i have. I apologize if it wasnt helpful.
