With the surge in Onn and Google streamer prices, not toention the possible sideload8ng clampdown, I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for AOSP devices. To me there are 2 categories of them. “Namebrand” AOSP devices with support and updates. And Chinese knockoffs.
Basically looking for ones to recommend to friends and family that aren’t preloaded with crap, malware, etc. They generally won’t care about is updates, they’ll just want it to.work.
As for “Namebrand” devices they’d be for me and the occasional tweaker nerdy type. Hope you can help me out.
I use the ONN 4K Pro now but before that had 2 T95Z Plus boxes for 6-7 years. Never shut em off, never cleaned them great boxes no issues. Some say the cheap china boxes have Malware and maybe so but no issues for me. Still have them, they still work just decided to move ONN.
Depending on the price point. Ugoos, Formuler, then you have lower cost. I bought 2 of the
x88 Pro x5m boxes last September for $53 each from aliexpress bought the 4/64 Gb versions. I also bought a x96 NEX to mess with,it was suggested by someone in a TG group, they all have worked well. It was $62 I believe and 4/32gb.
Please correct me if I’m wrong (which is not uncommon for me). But I seem to recall that several years back there were some issues with the Buzz TV boxes. And it seemed that their customer service was getting a lot of bad press here on the Insider. Then a company rep showed up to clear everything up. I did a search here to see if I could find the specific thread where the Buzz rep posted but couldn’t locate it. Anyhow, it seems that the Buzz TV boxes, going forward, would be an ideal choice for AOSP box. I do know Miki is thrilled with his unit.
