This is most likely going to take an expert. Please note that buffering itself is not the issue. The issue is how Kodi handles the buffer. I have been using Kodi for over 10 years and the issue has always been there regardless of the device or addon. It only happens while streaming LIVE events- mainly sports for me. When Kodi buffers during a live stream, once the buffer is full at 100% it “dumps” the entire buffer all at once. That means that the buffered content plays at fast forward until it catches up to LIVE. Of course, this goes on infinitely. The size of the cache makes no difference- that only changes the amount of content that is going to fast forward after the buffer is full.
The issue is live events. Anything live and iptv reated will have issues on kodi
I figured that it was an issue that needs dealt with by the developers. Of course Kodi developers will NOT discuss anything that isn’t an “official” addon. Thanks Dracoo!
Yes and no, freely maintained live iptv and events in kodi have always been this way. Of course if rhe dev was more active with it, it be better but it also takes alot of work. They also need server power and something that handles so many people on one feed. So you are probably experiencing that as well. Congestion.
I personally never bothered with that on kodi. Have you looked into iptv?
I’ve tried a handful of FREE iptv apps over the years and they all have one thing in common for me- low quality video. I know I don’t have any iptv apps on any of my fireTV boxes/sticks any more but I do still have LiveNet TV on my Shield box. The only thing I like about it is that I know I can usually find what I am looking for if for some reason the event isn’t showing up or working on the Crew Kodi addon. And for me, it’s always going to be sports- either out of market NFL games, MotoGP races, or even UFC ppv’s. I will generally only turn to LiveNet TV if the buffering gets out of control on the Crew.
Bless you for having the patience over the years to put up with the buffering of free live sports on Kodi. While it is wonderful to have it for free, I quickly got disgusted with the unpredictability of its nature when I was watching games. While I can’t totally answer your original question, I agree with Dracoo that an IPTV service would greatly benefit your experience. Then you wouldn 't have to worry about Kodi buffering dumps and how it catches the content up, etc. If that is not something you feel comfortable with and stick with Kodi, there isn’t a whole lot you can do on your end to really “fix” anything. They have to limit the quality of the stream to make sure a massive amount of people can watch, so in that regard, you do get what you pay for.
It also happens with iptv sub. In that case, you don’t get what you pay for. Oh wait, why not pay for 2 or 3 iptv sub backups, no thanks. Download two or 3 kodi addons and you’re golden.
If you get the right services, it rarely happens. To each his/her own, if you want to live dangerously watching free live sports in Kodi, there isnt a soul out there going to stop you. I’m just saying I’ve seen top of the line premium live and VOD services, there is no compare.
Let me see, kodi and constant addons dying or one IPTV sub that works perfectly, no ifs about it, hmmm, not sure. FYI, I removed and no longer use Kodi. Now I enjoy live TV every day using TiViMate without the stress. So as AMD said, to each their own.
That’s most likely true, but that’s a might big “if”! And I respect your opinion, even though I disagree with it.
Just because it doesn’t work for you, doesn’t mean it’s bad. And I noticed on the iptv service category that your iptv service does not work for everybody . If iptv subs were so good, why do you need two or 3 different services. I have watched every football, hockey, mlb, and english football that I wanted, plus hundreds of shows and movies buffer free all with kodi. So, agreed, each their own.
It isn’t just me it doesn’t work for, just look at the dozens of daily requests for help like yours, and because others have issues with a service, don’t assume I do, as I don’t.
But this is turning into a tit for tat, so I’m out. GL2U.
BTW The only reason I have more than one IPTV sub is because you never know when one will disappear, just like the kodi repos.
Back to the game on IPTV. Hope you get it fixed.
I absolutely am not here to judge Kodi, it definitely has its place and used by so many. But mostly for the VOD because you pair it with Real Debrid (a premium service), it works great. Live tv and sports have always and will always have issues for 99.9999% of people. I truly believe you should start a training thread for this here on the Insider, as poster child for perfect, free tv and sports. I mean this as a tip of the cap to you. You have found the secret that hardly any of us has found. If you were kind enough to share your methods, it would save a lot of us mucho dinero!
“Let me see, kodi and constant addons dying or one IPTV sub that works perfectly,” Your words not mine!
Now you’re saying you pay for a backup in case your primary goes down. both kodi and iptv sub have problems and benefits.
No I pay for another sub so I can experiment with the one that provides me the best quality of service. An extra service is just a bonus, like extra kodi addons. The service gets dropped as soon as I find the service I like. I’ve gone through 10 services so far, but Dependability is my goal. But you know full well the forces at play that can shut down these services at a moments notice, absolutely nothing to do with the service or the app I use it on. Backup isn’t the proper term the way I do it, as I am merely “testing” services, not keeping them. Kodi is a great app for some, but this is why we have choices. I may have now found my “perfect” service, but I will run it through it’s paces for a time to be sure. Ok, sorry got to go, excting game on and don’t want to miss a second. ttfn.
Holy Cow AMD, that was a snarky remark about my opinion. Seems like when you question the wisdom of the powers to be on this site you get harassed and belittled. Thats no way to run an opinion site. But sorry I went against the wisdom of the all knowing. your like the kid that if you don’t want to play his game, he takes his toys and goes home. I get it, if we don’t agree with you and a few others then our opinion isn’t welcome. Not everybody is looking for the perfect solution to cord cutting, just a better and cheaper way to enjoy what we want to watch.
I clearly state above that it wasnt meant as snarky. I was 100% serious. Having people here who know how to use Kodi for everyday IPTV is super valuable. I use Kodi for backup because it has never worked well for me. I know it is hard to tell when people are or arent being snarky since we arent talking face to face, but that was not meant to be that way at all. It would be refreshing to hear the good stories of live TV and Kodi, as we only ever get the negatives. Sorry you took it that way, ill try to be a little more clear next time.
Now that @Tico259 incorrectly thinks i’m a snarky jerk he likely won’t answer, but his responses truly got me intrigued. For those of you that do not follow the masses for paid IPTV and use Kodi for day to day TV, what add-on do you most successfully use? And what is your setup like? VPN, device, build/skeleton setup, etc…This conversation made me reminisce about my first cord cutting days that I only knew of Kodi and I hadnt found Troy. I tried to use this without guidance and y’alls help and called my TV every name in the book as someone from my favorite team would shoot the basketball in the air…and buffer. A few more feet and…is the basket good??? And buffer. I guess I gave up on it after that and kept paying for cable until I found Troy and started really exploring and enjoying the heck out of all the options available. That being said, I never really commited myself to learning more about Kodi and how I could use it more effectively.
I too love KODI - use it for catching up on all my weekly shows as well as watching movies. Paired with Real Debrid & Trakt, it’s hand-in-glove relationship with an IPTV service (i have one of the best ones out there - been with them for almost 14 months) However, i also like to watch lots of sports as well. As many have said, live tv on KODI is hit & miss but i’ve found Mad Titan Sports is pretty good & more reliable than most other add-ons. The Crew used to have the most reliable sports with little buffering but has declined over the years.
I remember I had my buddies telling me that Mad Titan was the best for sports, but I never could get it right and it made the games unwatchable. Now that you mention it, my go to that I trusted most was The Crew. Been a good add-on for a long time.
