Anti-virus programs

I presently have Norton antivirus on my PC. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good virus program that works. I getting tired of Norton always promoting their products.

Either ESET or Kaspersky the best ones for overall protection and they are lightweight on computer, so not much impact on performance.

I second ESET. Lightweight and works really well

Me too. I kind of hate them now!

Kaspersky has been banned from selling their products in the United States due to privacy concerns. If using Windows, your best bet is to stick with the built-in Windows Defender Antivirus that comes free with Windows 10 & 11. An excellent (and also free) front end for Windows Defender is DefenderUI created by the same publisher as VooDooShield. DefenderUI makes configuring Windows Defender easy as everything is spelled out and takes the mystery out of what each setting does. I install this as a courtesy on all computers I sell and repair for customers that don’t have an active subscription to another antivirus.

Microsoft has rewritten defender a few years ago and it is now getting excellent reviews from the antivirus community. It is also more entrenched into the Windows OS so it can check in places that are off limits to other antivirus programs without infringing on Microsoft’s licensing agreement.

Defender UI is available here - https://www.defenderui.com/

If you’re also looking for firewall software look no further than Microsoft’s built in firewall coupled with the Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control (WFC) available here - Windows Firewall Control

Thank you to all those that have answered my problem…

It’s horrible. MacAfee is equally horrible

Do u have surf shark or IPVanish? They both offer anti virus programs

No… I have Nordvpn

I use Bitdefender on all my devices and probably always will

Another vote for Bitdefender

Hi there,
I have always tried to use the best security package for my computers for Business, Home, or Personal use and have changed over the years. Had Norton which I left bexause very labor intensive meaning it used allot of space, was slow, and basically was like hiring The Rock to bring in your Groceries! Then went to AST REFEREED BY A FRIEND WHO INSTALLED AND MAINTAINED NORTHROP, LOCKHEED AND HUGHES DEFENSE SYSTEMS. IT WAS FREE AND WORKED. THEN TRIED A COUPLE OF OTHERS AND NOW FOR THE LAST10 YEARS HAVE USED BITDEFENDER!
IT’S EASY TO USE AND IT PROVIDE MANY SERVICES… AND MORE IF YOU WANT TO ADD THINGS YOU DON’T NEED WITH MONEY YOU DON’T HAVE!
SO, I CAN’T COMPLAIN!
IF YOU DO SOMETHING, LIKE CLICK OPEN EVERYTHING THAT COMES TO YOU! NOW YOU’D BE EVERYBODY’S PIGGY BANK!
SO I AM JUST GIVING YOU GUYS FEEDBACK AND APPRECIATE VIEWING ALL THE INPUT YOU PROVIDE!
BY THE WAY, HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL AND I HOPE YOU HAVE THE MERRIEST OF CHRISTMASES!!
REGARDS,
BILL

I use Malwarebytes Premium cyber security protection | Malwarebytes including the VPN. After year’s of problems with downloading bugs etc this alongside windows defender is proving to be the best for me.

Hello
I have had Webroot for over 15 years and it’s Technology is awesome It protection for all your Devices that you have, I give it a five star out of 5!!!
:sunglasses:

I used to use Webroot for several years…nearly as many years as my use of ESET.

I like Webroot’s minimal size and low use of resources. I wasn’t thrilled about it’s dependency of having to be connected to their cloud server for its function.

Eset is clean and minimal as well - operating on locally installed files and requiring online only for updated signature updates.

Norton, McAfee, Bitdefender, Kaspersky. Tried them all. Antithesis of minimalist.

I use only Defender (and smart use behaviors) now. It’s matured well and very effective…and free.

Bitdefender was suggested to us by the tech guys at BestBuy. Best decision ever. They are pretty cheap too when you don’t jump at the first offer they give you. Don’t auto renew.

I used Bitdefender for many years and found it to be very good. Despite this, in January of this year I decided to go with Windows Defender. Like pcdocstl stated in his post, it is now very respected. In fact, a security expert on the Bleeping Computer Forum has switched to Defender for his PC protection. Several years ago it was definitely not recommended but now that it has been very much improved and the fact that it’s included within Windows, makes it an excellent choice.
