I would never have imagined China doing such a thing…

Explains the “cheap” prices for these boxes as they need to be sold in big quantities.
That’s why I no longer use them

I purchased 2 T 95 boxes a year ago this past summer. All I did was turn them on to see if they worked then put them back in the boxes for maybe a backup one day. I did check them for a update but don’t remember if they took one or not.Guess I did right???

They still in the boxes…

Just in case I don’t think I will now be hooking these 2 backup anytime soon.
I am not that big of a gambler and when I do I usually loose so no need of breaking a loosing streak is there ? by not using them its just cost a little money for buying them in the 1st place…By using could cost a whole lot more…

There are members who swear these boxes are fine and it’s all FUD.

I would rather not take the chance as these boxes don’t get security updates and will be on your network

I also don’t play Russian roulette. I’m with you on this one.

Yup I’m one of them. 2 of these T95Z Plus boxes going on 6 years. where’s the Malware? Where’s my damage? Okay I’ll admit I keep the chineese terrorists fed and warm and built them a room next to the USB Port. I made a deal with them not to steal my life.

So many Nervous Nellies here.

In all fairness, those were older boxes @MarkxG . The ones being referred to are newer releases and this seems to be a recent addition in the code. So I brought this up so people can err on the side of caution.

Yeah could be Miki but I see all these articles but don’t see any cases of people having actual problems and since these boxes have been so good to me for so long I’m calling it all Hogwash. I need some concrete evidence other than these articles telling you to buy boxes that cost a lot more

I could do some research for you and get the exact variants of malware but I personally don’t think it’s necessary. The companies are vetted and trusted ones and if someone like Malwarebytes says there’s a malware backdoor variant in the wild then I again would err on the side of caution and steer clear of them. As far as the boxes go, I have no skin in the game and with so many options like a $55 firestick or $30 ONN available I’m on the side of better safe than sorry.

I have two ONN Walmart devices, both have Play Protect installed. I have Play Protect turned off on both devices because when turned on they disable my sports app.
Does having Play Protect turned off make my devices vulnerable to Android TV Boxes Infected.

Absolutely not. I have Play Protect turned off on my devices but then, when adding 3rd party apps, I only get them from sources I trust and always scan the APK before install and then the app after install.

There is a reason why we scan our computers / mobile devices for malware, why not other devices connected to your network?

Knowing the risks, you happy to get the new T95Z?
Did you use same info in Google Playstore as your other devices?
Does this malware scan for other info on your network?

I get it, security companies want to sell you anti-malware software but here the warning is for us to make a choice with buying a new streaming box.

Final thought, I am no expert and would not know if the operating system has shipped with malware. Android has security updates and have not seen them applied to these devices.

Thank you for a little positive hope, but I still ain’t using them until well just until…

That’s a good thing and my general thinking as well. Have a good day.
