I trialled four boxes, including Mecool, and eventually settled on the Nokia Streaming Box 8010, 4 K UHD. With 4 GB RAM and 32 GB Internal Storage.
Excellent piece of kit.

I like my Homantics Box 4k Plus (Box R 4K Plus – Premium 4K Streaming Box with Enhanced Performance | Homatics) they just updated to Android 12 and it works for me.

This is good cheap android box with s905w2 and 4gb ram. The included remote is good as well. I have put slimbox android tv rom on and it is quite fast.

Hello Perry. I purchased a Mecool box when Troy did a review on it. I like it. The major thing I found out about buffering is the access time. Made a guess. I’m at almost 600Mbits and I get buffering with Spect… I ran SPEEDTEST OOKLA I noticed my access ms time was in the high teens. The first time I shutdown modem and hit the reset button on router NOT long to wipe updates but long enough to see lights drop. My ms access time dropped to 8 wired. Got to see all the movies I wanted at 1080. The second time I got buffering I just reset the router. This morning I ran speed test and got 7.8ms access wired. So, I’m good to go again. This is my theory. I also clear cashe ever once and a while just in case. These android boxes need an app that is capable clearing all apps with one button. The good clear cashe app doesn’t run on my google box.
Tip: Put computer type fans under your Modem and Router; see what happens to your speed. 400 to almost 600 Get at amazon with 12 volt power cube. Both those units get real hot. Could probably cook eggs on my night hawk with wings. Have a good day. Bob out.

welcome

Let’s us know how you like the Minex U8 box.

Sure…the interface is really nice…intuitive & loading it is a breeze. (all boxes are really though) I like that its fast. The remote is different and I like the built in keyboard on the back, and the built in air mouse when you need it. Umbrella loaded into kodi (with Premiumize) and is SMOKIN fast and links populate like it reads your mind. Gotta be the Ram and the awesome chip they use. It has a built in cleaner that stops all background stuff if / when you need it. All in all I like it, but I will say this and Ill stick to my guns with it: IT IS NOT WORTH WHAT THEY CHARGE FOR IT. As of now, I am NOT having buyers remorse… but I am right on the verge! This would be a great box for Troy to review. Bottom line: knowing what I know now, would I recommend it? (Even with the 8 gigs of ram nice cpu and fancy remote) I cant due to what I deem an overly exorbitant price.

Thanks for your thoughts. I ended up realizing that the box is not for me being that I don’t watch content in 8k or even 4k. Our Internet has a monthly 1.25TB cap on it. I usually use 720p or 1080p

I totally agree about the Rupa. It’s a long story, but I needed a box in a hurry and didn’t have any mail service, so I looked on Amazon and found the Rupa. I ended up buying the 8/128 version and haven’t been a bit disappointed.

It handled a 1 TB NTFS drive right out of the box. You could set it to use your favorite launcher, it had a built-in mouse, and it had a root switch. I was also able to add the system picker for Tivimate from APKpure. I am using the system with Tivimate, Sparkle, and the IMplayer all doing recordings to the NTFS drive.

I started with a Firestick and, following Troy’s review, I got hold of a Mecool KM2 Plus Deluxe and I’ve been very impressed with it. Love the speed with which it handles TiviMate etc.

When I’m away from home for an extended period I take it with me along with my portable projector and it performs flawlessly. Along with the IPTV service, I run Serviio on my laptop as a uPNP source of pre-downloaded content for Kodi so I always have entertainment even when I have no, or very slow, Internet connection.

I think I’m getting addicted to Android boxes and IPTV as I’m now looking at getting the Ugoos SK1

What portable projector you use?

@Anth - it’s just a cheap 1080p one that I picked up when in India a couple of years ago. It’s nothing special but works OK and has been reliable (now I’ve said that it’ll probably die next time I use it) :grimacing:

It’s NLA but looks a bit like this one ZDSSY Hy300, by Salange, Smart Portable Android 11 Mini Projector, 220 ANSI, 4K/1080P, Wi-Fi 5G BT 5.0, 180 Degree Rotation : Amazon.in: Electronics

Thanks for the info.
