I’ve started using the onn box. One of my favorite channels stopped working on firestick but works here.
I just bought two of the ONN 4k Pro boxes.I have been using ROKU for years but recently decided I wanted more control. The ONN boxes are FIRE, while the firestick is NNO!
See what I did there?!?!?
I didn’t like that either and had a lot of issues installing apps, wasn’t the 4k though, the previous version. I ended up getting a TiVo stick and thus far it’s been good.
Well this stinks! But, somewhere I read that the ONN will also be blocking 3rd party apps, since it’s run by google tv. Is that just smack talking or does anyone know?
There was some discussion that Google was going to require that all developers were going to have to jump through some hoops before they would be authorized to be involved with the Googleverse. But the latest news is that Google is backing off a bit. Basically saying that an “advance user” would be able to load, basically, what they want at their own discretion.
dev’s at google might be seeing the writing on the wall? they’re looking at the amazon firestick mess but? the owners of copyright stuff are putting on the pressure…not sure where this might go? but doesn’t look promising…alas our ability to hack stuff…is never ending …the peeps on reddit? are having a blast with this whole concept of hacking everything…lol
I think what they’re doing is better than Amazon. Basically they will stop the Install of 3rd party apps and then give a warning that you may be in danger, then you will get a popup to install anyway with a final warning that this may put you and your data at risk and you get a last “install anyway” option.
Yup they will say they are trying to “protect” us. What a croc of BS!. ONN 4K Pro working great. If and when the time comes where Google goes the Amazon route I’ll just go back to the Cheap China boxes I was using before. Until then I’m not going to worry about what may happen
Has anyone figured out a way to unblock sideloading from the Firestick Select?
No, right now its completely blocked (like a Roku). I doubt there will be a work around for this product.
