Amazon Now Blocking 3rd Party Apps on Firestick/Fire TV

I blocked updates on my 4k Max using TP guide. Also, using Projecty launcher. I have even sideloaded couple 3rd party apps. No problems streaming yet. As I always say. I will use until it no longer streams. I still perfer my firestick remote navigation. :slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face:

But determined ppl will find a way. Just a matter of time, especially if ppl are determined to still use a Fire TV device.m

While blocking apps at installation, instead of at launch, creates a new obstacle, it ultimately does little to prevent determined users from using blocked apps. Cloning tools can be updated to modify APK files prior to installation, if there aren’t some that can already do that, and various websites exist where users can alter apps externally. Additionally, pre-modified versions of many blacklisted apps are already widely available to install, which haven’t been blocked by Amazon.

Anyone having issues with Flix Vision being blocked on Nvidia Shield or Onn 4K Plus? About a week ago, I tried to use Flix Vision and it said I needed to update the app. Kept getting an error. Uninstalled it and tried to install it again, same error. Any ideas?

Thanks

Turn off the Play Protect. I also turn off auto updates.

I was like what has changed? I think it would previously give me the option to keep going… must have had an update to turn off that option off, even though similar apps install with no issue. I appreciate it. Love me some Flix Vision.

That is why I suggest turning off auto update at the same time as turning off the PlayProtect scanning as this also happened to me. I had it off and a Google update came in and after I installed it I noticed that PlayProtect had been re-enabled and I had to turn it back off.

Google/Android are already making it more difficult to locate the necessary settings in their devices to permit sideloading of our favorite apps. My Onn stick has Play Protect in the Andoid menu while my Onn 4k Plus requires you to go into the PlayStore app and turn it off there. That’s just one example! :angry_face_with_horns:

I’ve always turned off the play protect by going into the playstore on my devices.

Yes, I’ve done that on my Onn box(es) but I couldn’t even find the Playstore app on my (new) Onn HD stick. I can get to it by using the voice command but the app appears nowhen in any of the menus or home screen(?!) Any idea how to get the app icon (shortcut) on my home screen (or even just in the Apps list)?

Not sure you can. I have the ONN 4K Pro and just use the voice command to open the play store but never able to get the Play Store app. Not a big deal for me

No, it’s not a big deal but something you’re going to use as much as the Playstore should have it’s own place on the home screen, I would have thought (maybe there’s just no room for it with all the other advertising junk - sorry, “suggestions” - they have on there!)

So I installed Projectivy Launcher yesterday on my ONN Box and guess what? I now have the Google Playsore App. You might want to try that. Troy put out an updated Video on how to install and configure Projectivy a few days ago. Get it from the Playstore NOT Troy’s Toolbox
