Amazon Firecube 3rd Gen

I had an issue with my Firecube 3rd gen over the w/e…out of the blue, the volume buttons stopped controlling my AVR. After going through a replacement remote and calling back into tech support, they (Amazon) admitted there was a know issue with this. The tech told me they would be fixing and sending out an update in the next 2-3 days. FYI

I just ordered a 3rd Gen Firecube (using Fire OS) and after looking at some other posts, I am wondering if I will be able to install Downloader and get my third party apps that I have with my Firestick. If that is the case, can someone point me to the video/info on how to access developer options and block any future updates. I would be grateful for any guidance and help here. Thank you!

GreggB, you might want to take a look at this thread. Trying to get a brand new fire device to side-load may prove to be a challenge due to the newest operating system that Amazon had gone to on the newest units.

🔥 Shhhhh! These Fire TV Apps Haven't Been Blocked & Probably Won't Be

Also, if you do a search, here on the Insider, there are quite a few threads that can help to decide if you want to keep the Cube or if you want to move on to another device. Just go up to the magnifying glass in the upper right hand corner to open the search function. Best of luck!

Thank you! I assume that since this cube has the Fire OS that it will be OK. But you know what they say about “assume”.

Gregg, it’s really an unknown how well the Cube will work with all that Amazon is doing to hose things up. My Gen 2 cube was over $100 if I recall correctly. And in that price range you are getting close to the cost of an ASOP device..Buzz, Ugoos or Formular that should be a bit more secure from major changes. Again there is always the unknown and speculation on what Google has in mind. And of course there is the ONN line which pretty popular at this time. But they can be a challenge to track down, due to their popularity. I have both the Ugoos AM9 and the ONN Pro v1 which are sensational boxes. My Cube v2 was the love of my life at the time. Then I fell for the nVidia Shield Pro which to me is still a spectacular streamer to this day. I’m just weighing in with my thoughts.
