Is there such a thing for firesticks, google tv devices?
Not sure if you can get a universal ad blocker that works on FireTV and GoogleTV(Android). Blokada maybe. An online search may answer that. gl2u
I use adguard but there are many and different approaches to blocking. Some act as a local vpn to block but will interfere with an actual device loaded vpn. I use my actual vpn on my router and block ads both on my router(not via vpn) and on my device with adguard. Search xda forums for good choices and explanations.
thanks for the reply, sounds like it could get a bit complicated lol…just as an example what I would like to use it for would be to block ads on one of those streaming services that blast so many ads it’s not worth watching.
Surfshark has a built in ad-blocker called clean web
Just came across this article about a pc-based adblocker. No Android version out yet.
Requires users to cast from the pc to a TV.
You can use Android and setup Adguard home on it to use as your DNS server but it definitely requires root. I use an Adguard subscription based private server and it works the best.
If you have windows, Adguard home it’s relatively easy to setup on it as well. You can add as many rules or blocklist that you want to. I was watching a video on YouTube about it and tried it on both my device and on Windows just to see if it was as easy as he was making it look. On Windows it’s super easy but if you want to keep Internet access you need a PC you don’t mind running at all times. As far as your router, it depends on your ISP and the type of router because you’ll need to be able to change the DNS servers on it. In my case I can do it with an app from my ISP and they don’t care. It’s not as complicated as it sounds. It’s just two numbers you need to fill in.
Android is another story and it is complicated at requires root and Termux. Definitely root and I’m pretty sure Termux is your only choice because Android is basically Linux and it’s the only app I know is that you can download basically anything you can from any distro or a variation of it. Enough about that though because it’s not really feasible.
